And if people become un-popular by fucking over other people, and something concrete like that - Well, then they are not professional. Therefore, the focus will be on professionalism, and not whether they are likeable or not.

I think that is a valid approach but it is not entirely satisfactory to me... being unethical, or even just being a big jerk is Unprofessional, and does affect the quality of the product... But frankly there are other forms of unprofessionalism that I am perfectly willing to tolerate.
If someone acts unprofessional in good spirits, that is OK as long as I feel that they are being unprofessional with love. I prefer someone who acts unprofessional, but with love, to someone who is a professional but an intolerable jerk.
In fact, on furhter consideration Im not sure that it is good to attack someones professionalism if their personality is the real issue. Its OK to dislike a personality to why mask it with the pretense of "professionalism".
I agree, popularity contests are not good... and that is one trap of judging peoples personality/character. Just because someone seems to be a good person from what you have seen at a party doesnt mean that they are.

This issue is so important to me because of my spiritual philosophy of trancing. I feel that when someone plays music for or otherwise entertains a crowd, there is some sort of crazy mystical energy vibration that comes out of them and absrobs into the crowd. Thus by listening to the music/attending the party of a person who's ethics do not have my respect, I feel that I am risking spiritual pollution, and furthermore, making their bad spirit stronger by giving it the support of my attendance and the attention of my ears.

***I'll take a trainwreck with love over a perfect set dripping with ego and self importance. If it's a perfect set done with love, even better. If its a trainwreck made with excessive pride then please, just stop embarassing yourself***

Very good point. People sometimes start rumors about eachother so I do my best to put what people say out of my mind and only judge people based on what I personally have seen. Sometimes though an organizer will have such an overwhealmingly bad rep that it just isnt possible to ignore..
