respect,honour,integrity and decency.
in this case the lack of it.
spreading released muic is taking money away from the musicians in the most direct way possible which in itself is bad and already debated elsewhere,
whereas unreleased i would deem the equivalent of pissing up and down their backs.
unreleased tracks are given to friends and recordlabels not meant for public scrutiny,
either cuz they suck (a lot of unreleased does suck you know) or becuz the artists want to keep it to themselves for playing live or whatever.
if i find out that some of my music is spread against my will and even being exploited commercially(read mp3 dj´s etc) i get really fucking pissed cuz trust was broken and i will do what i can to find the source of the leak.
remember this kiddies:trust is earned not given
and the world is a lot smaller than you think.           Mastering available here:

I put little inaudible sounds, that can only be seen by me in a wave editor, in each track, thus personalizing every track that I give away(It only takes me a few minutes). That way I can track criminals, if the track gets around or on the net. This feature has been implemented as part of my "No Trust" policy, as I have been screwed so many times. Sometimes you have to do very nasty things for your own cause. I am simply tired, and I don't see any other solution.

Artists, try give out music to just one person at a time, and you directly see if he/she is to be trusted or not. After that, if you still give it to those guys, then you must WANT your tracks on the net...           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

Don't you need a label deal to have a promo version? Which is why you send the track to a label in the first place!

I remember there was a few companies here talking about 'water marking' tracks but it didn't really take off and I didn't really hear anything about it since 2000 .. then I saw what Aphex Twin did to his Windowlicker track which was quite imaginitve (there is some plug-in that will convert .BMP & .JPG to .WAV so when you run them through a spectrum analyser (Audiogram) it reveals the pic)..

I'm a little confused though .. when Promo is mentioned is that like a full length sample of the track with stuff taken out and mixed differently/roughly .. or is it the full track meant for promotional use only?

Elisium: i dont think any serious label would do this... its under the law and its easy to get catched with this.

What about the non-serious labels? What about a person who simply thought what they heard was crap and gives it away ‘coz who wants it..

ofcourse they won't if they got it before the cd was released.

So you're saying that if we kill the unreleased scene people will buy cd's?
Gimme a break!

Anyway, the big fault is on the labels and distributors.

Penta - how does watermarking help you?

This is REALLY not the subject here.
The subject is HOW and WHY trax come to the net.

So leave this "why ppl dont buy" subject.           ..."Be yourself, let your conscience guide you...

Why?
I'll tell you exactly why.

As we all know, labels are no "company". Just a bunch of people who give no respect to their artists and they will trade their tracks to get tracks from another label. They know they won't sell much anyway, and the big money comes from performing. So they give the unrl to their dj's and in the meanwhile the thing gets leaked to the net, where the massive amount of sharing programs such as SoulSeek and DirectConnect make it VERY easy to obtain those tracks.

Great strategy Nikita...
This way you know who to trust. Maybe this is the solution (or partial solution) to the problem of track leaking to the net. If a track leaks, you will know who let it leaks... And you´ll never trust this person a unreleased track again...

here's a good solution...when an artist wants to send a promo to a label he should do something to his track to make it impossible to play @ a party...for example make a normal track and put something in the middle of it...like a stupid break...or a really anoyining sample...or just make the track low quality...in any case it has to be enough for the label to hear the music but again it has to have something that stops the label from spreading the tracks on the net and through their djs/friends           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

I think its more going like this :
Artist give his music to friends, the friend give to friend who give to friend until its come to me           ..."Be yourself, let your conscience guide you...
Follow your heart, not the people around you"

artists should send the track at low quality.. like 64kbps or smth..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

Well the label need to hear the tracks in full quality to be able to judeg if they want to realease the music or not...

Another point is that even if I send the label a track with "skips" in the track...once they have released the track it will be ripped off by the mp3 mafia and put on the net..so it dosent really matter how much you protect the music before it's released..it will still be downloaded when it's released instead of being sold in the shops.
