it takes time to get in trance.... to relax mindwaves.... to get in state of trance...

trance songs are made on this concept... that is the point. It gives you message through melody.. emotions.. not with words... and it takes time..

You should be asking:

"how come trance tunes aren't longer?"

Indian classical music and trance music resemble in that sense:

Most tunes use one tonic and one scale only dwelling in one emotion repeatedly in order to drive the listener into a trace mode.

Unlike most common western music that uses harmonies (the change of chords) to define the time cycle of a tune or melody, they both use cycle perception of time - marking the end (and beginning) of a cycle with rhythmic emphasizing tools.

That concept end up with longer tracks (in Indian classical it can be even 45-90 minutes for one track with acceleration of the BPM along the piece)

The artist build up the emotional impact by ever rising tension and relief every one two or more time cycle (just like in love life - isn't it?) and that procedure take more time to build up than laying down a tune on a pattern of chord changes involving multi emotional expression (that might be much shorter but does not lead to a trance state of mind and body)

Anyway - my theory

Another thing: the reason for "normal " song to be so short is that they should suit a commercial radio broad cast - u cannot put a 10 min song - when will the broadcaster will push in his mambo-gumbo? When they will have a chance to put on the bloody commercials? That’s why "regular" song producers make they tunes so short, so they can be on the radio!
national radio doesn't give a fuck about psy music, so why should we chop our creation just to suit their needs? They ain't gonna put it on anywayz

the way i experience good trance music and why i ultimately love it, is because most tracks are longer than your ordinary everyday pop, minute made, bite size music u hear on the radio.

the possibility a long track offers is the opportunity to create a narrative within a track... i love the fact that each tune can hold its individual story line, allowing the listener to transcend as the track progresses. thats the beauty of trance music!! there is a beginning, a build up and a denoument, just like a book... making each track special, beautiful and interesting to listen to...

What's wrong in adding a few seconds of kicks before & after the track itself so it can be mixed easier?
It doesn't hurt the track..

wouldn't it be kinda lame if the artists would intentionally be making their music so that it can be properly beatmatched?

No, in fact, it would be great, and it would get rid of a lot of trainwrecks that you tend to hear at trance parties, which would make it easier to put ppl into the proper headspace. what's wrong with seamless mixing, tell me?

anyway, most artists do it already. of course it has to be the finnish ones that don't give a fuck.
