How about saving the Earth?

Hey guys,

Considering the best parties are outdoor ones and everyone loves to party in nature.. I was wondering if anyone here are aware or involved in initiatives to conserve energy and reduce global warming..such as Batti Bandh, Earth Hour etc etc..

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=10189087353&ref=mf

http://www.earthhour.org/

They are excellent intiatives to educate people that every individual can make a difference, and how much energy can be saved in just an hour!

I, for instance, avoid using plastics, always turn my lights off when not in use, and use blubs of minimum wattage.. obviously there's alot more I could do to conserve energy and reduce CO2 emissions.

At outdoor parties, I think it's very important to clean your own garbage, unfortunately I've noticed that at many parties, there's quite a mess that's left behind because people wouldn't throw their bottles or cans or scraps of paper into a garbage bin.
Or maybe there aren't enough bins at parties..

Any thoughts.. opinions.. or testimonials on how you have made a difference, whether small or big?           "I am now illegal in several countries."

The Live Earth link is cool.. Music is a brilliant way to bring large masses together to educate them..

I think a great initiative from this community is if party organizers would donate a part of their earnings from a gig to a non-profit organisation.. be it for charity or a group promoting environmental awareness..

I wonder if the idea of one paying more for a party.. knowing that some of the proceedings are being used for a good cause would be attractive.. ?? Or if it's feasible in the first place?

I know I'd be more than willing to pay a little more to enjoy a party and support a cause!           "I am now illegal in several countries."

i dont mean to be critical of ur views ,but my signature sums up what this whole community is about....Hippies ; they wanna save the earth but all they do is smoke pot - Eric cartman in southpark !!

People can only think up and talk abt doing good....the words rarely transform into action.....the same would go for me....it sucks i know but i hate my lethargy as well.....but i do my lil bit.....if i ever got o a place of natural beauty i leave the place as it was when i reached there......i pick up evrything ...right from plastic ,papers , even ciggie buds......thats the very least i could do

All hippies don't think the same way. In the past 2 years I've donated at least 8,000 INR to care2 repositories and have a premium care2 membership. These guys do their job very well. Unfortunately, such things won't work in India, IMHO.

Well I brought this topic up, not to make a monumental difference.. or encourage people to do the same.. but it was just to know if people do their little bit to conserve energy..
I brought this up coz of the growing concern of global warming..

But i guess maybe you're right in a small way.. coz this topic has been here for about 2 days and no one has responded besides 2 people..
Either people feel guilty that they don't do enough, or don't care too much for the cause..

Either way.. I encouage people to read up on Batti Bandh and Earth Hour.. it's a start!

Cheers!           "I am now illegal in several countries."

I too wouldn't mind paying more for a party if I can be sure that a part of the proceedings are contributed for a good cause like saving the environment.. say Greenpeace or Care2 etc.

Peace!

that's a nice thought.....

i would be happy to pay lil xtra for the cause....

i also make sure i discharge my rubbish in the bins while partying, but to be honest sometimes when there is bin to be seen around i have to find a place somewhere else to spill it.           We were born naked & grow up to become wicked.

there was a young lady at last nights Rang 2008 kickin a few bottles and picking a few glasses and trashing them to a side ...there were some loosers smirking at her ..., such attitudes need to change ...me i was too wasted to pick ma own self up ....n thats an excuse ...

similarly most of us have an excuse for maybe not caring enough or not having enough time or money to save the earth ....

but what we need to do is be wary of our actions that destroy the environment and be concious of if not enhancing but not atleast destroying our immediate natural habitats .....

here's to giving thought to a greener cleaner earth ...

Well.. although this woudl be considered off topic****
If you give so much imp towards being Eco firendly.....
LOUD music was never a part of nature.. never apart of the enviro....
LOUD BIG sound that makes the ground shake... scares all the fauna of the place.. the poor wild things (WHATS LEFT OF THEM ATLEAST)... it makes them move their homes (EGGS n all) fearing for their lives... in the middle of the night.....esp the reptiles... and not to forget the birds.....

but then again.... WHO OUT HERE CARES......ehh...
we all love the LOUD SOUND>>>>> without which ... we cant party******

Then again.....
I am all with you for the thought....

nice post...
