our group heartsocean based in assam donated 50 k for tsunami relief to united nations fund in 2005 by organizing a charity ball ( which wasn't psy and we auctioned off moonmoon sen's lingerie ( ha ! gopi bhai) n frm the biotouch gig in assam where we raised 25 k we bought shoes for the forest guards of rajiv gandhi orang national park which has a huge poaching problem .... so it can be done.....i am not too materialistic and so are my frenz frm heartsocean and we do a lot for street children and less priviliged children and also organize free psy gigs for the community ..so how can anybody say tht hippies only smoke pot...no man we are the reformed new generation remember!!!!

Since we are out to save the planet now..
Let us all stop using cars.. Air, sound and noise pollution.
Let us all stop using mobile phones.. the waves used by the telecom companies is doing something to the brain of birds.. especially sparrows, result of which is sparrows are dying..!
Let us stop the use of plastic.. everyone knows about this one..!
Let us all stop using electric bulbs and other appliances.. the heat that is produced by these things, is making the planet warmer.. and since we are not going to use electronic appliances like let's say a computer, what's the point of posting these threads when we ourselves are not going to read it..!
And maybe if anyone wants to do something.. Plant a Neem sepling.. It will reduce air pollution, give shelter to birds and the earth's crest will be safer from 'irrigation' is it..?

We all know that light bulbs, cell fones, plastic in some form or the other etc etc are almost hard to avoid..
The purpose of this discussion.. was firstly to bring about some awareness about efforts such as earth hour and batti bandh and encourage participation..
It wasn't an idealistic, dreamy, "hippie" approach to saving the planet.. it's about being realistic of the facts that there are many "planet killing items" that we can't live without.. but we can definitely avoid using them in abundance..
And most importantly.. it was about coming up with ideas on how, we as a community could further help many organizations promote awareness.. For eg: paying a little more for parties..knowing that the proceedings are being donated..
Either way.. I appreciate all the responses..

wars ...drugs ..... diseases play a very important role..
thts life....
lesser human beings lesser stress on earth...one fine day these firangs will kill the poorer industrial giants like china and india by pollution in the air, diseases...its a conspiracy theory... anyway like i care....just gonna roll a fat manala...

dint go thru' all the posts above.....though am trying a lil (not very sincerely though I must admit) on these things...like minimal usage of plastic bags at supermarkets (preferably recycled ones), no litters at inappropriate places (in parties or otherwise), m tryin to cut down on smoking
n I dont mind paying lil extra if I see some sincere effort frm someone related to this cause..
I could n shd have done lot more though....will try more frm now on!!

Get you car tuned get a bicycle stop eating so fukkin much so you can reduce the methane in the atmosphere hehehe... f#$k.
Its funny right all this earth talk and envoirnmental pundits came up with bio fuel and that its gonna start this clean n green revolution lol now the same twats are realising people pay more for fuel than food and farmers have started growing maize for bio fuel rather than wheat and other food grains thus causing a food crisis, fukken hillarious.
Clever way to save the planet stop thinkin mates and start living. Thats what Mother earth would like us to do..

I see a lot of potential in what holds forth for Earth and it's inhabitants sometime around 2012
