Hi all,
Just got myself enrolled in an audio engineering course, which has a special on EDM...!

I am also looking at setting up my own home studio, so I can produce some music while at home and also practice whatever i learn at school.

I will be dealing more with Pro tools in my course, though I am personally interested in learning cubase (from what I've heard, its more psy friendly)..

My current setup at home is :-
1) Desktop computer - AMD ATHLON 64x2 ^6000+ series 3-0 Ghz with 2 GB RAm and integrated Sound card.

2) HP Pavilion Laptop- Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 @ 2.00 GHz with 3 GB Ram and integrated sound card..

I now intend to get a good set of monitor speakers, midi synth (if necessary), any other equipment/ software to setup my home studio.

Any light on the above and any other suggestions would be really appreciated...!

Thanks in advance...!

Love n light..!           No... no more scientists, no more laboratories, no more experiments, I thought you`d be able to understand that. No more!

dont forget acoustic treatment, spend half the money for treatment as you spend for your monitors.

laugh. total crap...compared to what? I have an old dual core 2.5 ghz chip, all of my computer components are at least 3-5 years old and when I bought them they weren't particularly high end. I have to actively try to be sloppy and inefficient in order to max out my computer - and I use plugs that can be extremely brutal on CPU.

You don't need a high end super beast of a computer to do music production with - that was one of the big points of Kaz's excellent post.

get yourself a good soundcard, i suggest a emu or motu, before you buy a midi or monitors.

external soundcard is a must, i highly recommend RME cards.
Excellent monitors, Sound proofing (at least some) and a midi controller are all a must IMO           Check out my site for Video tutorials and other tips & Tricks
