hey, dunno if its the right place, but..

i wanna buy a new pc for my home studio
(which consists of scarlett 8i6, alesis monitor one mk II with ra150 amp, and a nebulaphone

i'm working mainly with fl 10 and cubase 5, but not ruling out working with cb6/7 or live 8/9 in the future.

what should i focus on when choosing components? more cpu speed/power or more ram or ect.
which motherboards are better for my needs?

(if anyone has a nice spec they can post, itll also be nice)

my budget is about 4000-5000 nis(1000-1250 $)

awesome site for comparing components and whatnot.

I built a computer at that budget a couple months ago. More than 8 or so gigs of RAM is overkill, my Intel Core i5-3570K that I got screams and is just over $200.

I wouldn't spend more than 100 on the motherboard, ive got good experience with gigabyte mobos but there's lots of good stuff out there.

MAKE SURE TO GET AN SSD HD!!! biggest performance increase that I've had in many years you can get a smaller SSD for your OS and DAW and then a 1 TB regular drive for samples/storage etc.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

SSD disk like Samsung 840 Pro...or equali fast.. If you can afford the drive, otherwise go for 128gb disk.
8GB minimum DDR3 depending on OS and a Intel i5 2500K.
A cheap mobo, that can use the unlocked features of the i5K.

Older gen of P8 mobos like Asus Z77 is more than enough.

You will get a monster with that kind of setup.

I mainly focus on CPU horsepower, and got my i5 Intel running at 4.2ghz with ALOT of plugins... not once have I had to reduce anything.

I only have 8gb memory, but never had any problems running that "low".

But remember get some fast rams, with good timings, so you can let the cpu take advantage of the higher bandwith if overclocking.

And no, overclocking today is not anything dangerous for the cpu, actually the K on the intel chips, tells us it is unlocked.

my i5-3570K is supposed to be perfect for overlocking and I was looking forward to it....

Until I discovered there's no need. Current tech is so fuckin fast.....            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

fixed a pc about one month ago and had good advices from here:

http://forum.isratrance.com/update-on-kaz-studio-pc-guide/

your budget should be good enough for a fast studio pc, i bought the ssd (128 gig) and like it, would even have bought a bigger one looking back now.           http://soundcloud.com/vipal

Wait a little longer, new cpus from intel probably on March/april. Also I would go for an i7, this way you will get the more usefull life out of your system.

Yeah I ahve an i5 and it's good and all but really you want all the cpu power you can get with out going over the top (extreme editions).

Ram 8 gigs, a good cpu (corsair or antec), a small video card (620,30 gx), a silent case (antec P180) and a couple of hardrives.

it will be worth the wait, because you can snag some of the older i5/i7s that are still insanely fast at ridiculous prices.

Never buy bleeding edge PC components IMO. Totally not worth it for music production especially. The new ones will definitely be expensive.

i5 vs i7... no point going for hypethreading..go for clockspeed instead.. i still believe the best cpu price/performance is the old i5 2500k...some guys run these beasts at 4,5ghz on air...and man thats fast.           http://www.beatport.com/release/the-awakening/1180641

To bad, the new chip gets hotter...But still the 3570K, is good and priceworthy.           http://www.beatport.com/release/the-awakening/1180641

New chips are usuallly not more expensive that the current prices of the same tier, 10, 20 USD at most. The old ones get cheaper after.

So for example a i5 750, 2500 and a 3500 costed around 220 USD when first introduced.

The only more expensive ones are "k" editions (unlocked for overcloacking), extreme editions or if some new model comes with more cores.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

the best value for money cpu now is the amd 8350 8 core.
it will give you significant more performance than any i5 cpu.

sequencers are heavily threaded and they will use the more cores of the amd.
so far the last 3 systems i build for audio have the amd cpu and it beats in raw vst/vsti loading count the intel i7 3770 stock in about 10-20%           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/
