Guys, I'm trying to figure out the missing piece of the puzzle of psy in boston. Apparently, Mass rules don't allow clubs to be open after 2 in the night and for a few places which operate as after party bars, no alcohol after 2.
The team of Mindoutpsyde, based in Iowa, have offered their support in terms of setting up, DJ's and other logistics.
So now, as i see it, there are a few alternatives:
1. Afternoon to 2AM Psy ( no morning glory)
2. Scout nearby states like New Hampshire etc, a drive of 45 minutes - 1 hour.
3. Private location
Comments ? Suggestions ?

As part of Mindoutpsyde, we will be providing every kind of support. Since we are not based of boston, we really dont know about the venue issue. As far as we are concerned, we just want a proper venue to throw down a good 8 hour set.
We know couple of Djs from NYC who would be more then willing to come and play in the party.
Are there any psy organisers from Boston or around Boston who want to collaborate with us would be fantastic. Just PM me or mail me at riteshn AT gmail DOT com.
Come on Boston people, lets do it

generally the rules that shut down clubs early are blue laws; i.e. related to liquour lisences. In fact, in most places clubs don't have to close when they have to stop serving alcohol... they just do so because that's when they stop making money. Look into it, but my guess would be that places that don't serve alcohol can go past four; as u.s. citizens we have a constitutional right to assemble. |

location would be your hardest thing to come by. but, be weary, Boston has a "Rave Task Force" in place and their entire purpose at the police station is to track down and stop any ILLEGAL entertainment. Meaning, do the research, and get a permit for whatever venue you find if it is NOT a club.
The city basically designed the system to put all musical entertainment into clubs or concert halls. You can research the venues on Lansdowne street which is right behind Fenway Park, the baseball stadium. Those club venues have been known to go until 4 am in the past, some of them even using wristbands to allow 19+ events with booze for those over 21. This is your best avenue to take because its legit and probably won't get busted.
or go to the underground, in which case, you're talking about breaking into an abandoned warehouse if you are staying in city limits. I recommend Chinatown for this as most of that area's commercial buildings are vacant, and the cops have murders and crack dealers to worry about, versus people having a party.
There is also the surrounding areas of the city, Roxbury, Somerville, and Dorchester, but these areas are extremely volatile and high in violent crimes; muggings, shootings, car-jackings, etc etc. not a place you want to leave your vehicle for a few hours at night.
We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

HAHAHAHA!! somewhere along the way, the authorities took that right away from us, and made it OK to arrest people for assembling without their permission.
Anyway, I live in boston...its pretty annoying to throw a party here. You won't find any bar/club in this city that will let you run an event past 2AM. If you want to do something in boston, you should make friends with some folks who live in various loft spaces around the city; most of them love a good party, but will try to appropriate all control over the music/deco and turn your party into an electro-house & abrasive "IDM" suck fest.
If you find a good place in New Hampshire, Vermont, or Maine, you'll have more freedom to orchestrate the party as you wish...but you might have trouble getting people to come since a lot of the boston psy crowd doesn't ever leave the city. Though, if you promote it hard for a good amount of time, you could make it work
Good luck, and let me know if you need any help or advice |

they have their parties at a VFW hall in cambridge. the parties only go until 2AM, and they've recently stopped throwing indoor psyforias since legal capacity for the venue is only 85. In the summer time, the party is outside, right on the bank of the charles river; a beautiful spot, indeed. This past summer they threw an all day party from (i think) 1pm-1am...there's some stupid law that if your event starts before sundown, then it has to end by 1am (i know, "wtf?"). day parties are really fun, though, and sonic beating got a really good turnout/response to that particular installment. maybe you guys should think about something along those lines? |
