Grab two Skazi cds...they are almost all on 145 bpm..then try to figure out the 32 beat..you know like, after the last big break, hit the first beat of the new track (cued previously),start up to include the highs of the new track and work forward with the mids and at least insert the new bass..

if you like to choose other tracks remind the 0.7=1bpm guideline and enjoy mixing..

good luck!

lol

here is my guideline for beatmixing/matching for starters

LEVEL 1
first of all i suppose you have a lot of ORIGINAL cd's
many of those have dj slips with bpm's.
If you have some progressive with dj slips even better.
Choose two tracks with same known bpm (if you have prog choose those cause slower bpm is easier)
mark up first beat on track you are mixing and after that start other track.
then try to get these beats matched, after week or two u get this going u can move to next level.
wich is to choose any two track but keep bpm's close like -/+ 2 beats (at this point you can choose tracks with beat range +/- 3 beats and play them without looking bpm's)

LEVEL 2
searching right bpm
cue CD1 track to first beat and put CD2 on play. then hit on CD1 on beat and get it matched. after its matched listen does it keep on beat, if not adjust + or - from pitch and now u can remember 0,7 rule
after a while u start to hear do you have to adjust + or - but at first u can just try both ways if difference goes bigger aka it gets faster out off beat you are going to wrong way.
at first i used to cue back to first kick everytime i made adjustments but now i keep it on beat all the time during adjusting.

now this level u have to practise a lot and after you master it u have completed beatmixing           http://www.myspace.com/polly_potb

i totaly forgot to mention if you have same bpm on tracks you get beats matched by using jog wheel to make track go faster or slower temporary or you can use pitch bend buttons

I suggest for the beggining, not to use any "rule", sort of speak. i.e:

Place Track A you wish to play. Then choose Track B you want to mix in.
Find Track B cue spot (first beat you wish to enter).
When you have it cued, play both tracks together, and monitor Track B by + or - at pitch (+ if it's slower than Track A ; - if it's faster than Track A).
Don't forget to use jog to forward/rewind it a bit to place them together.
When you feel they are kicking at the same time, you've found you CUE SPOT!!

Just wait for the time you want Track B to start playing, hit it, clean the Mids / Highs like you wish, and switch the Low (Baselines) when you want.
I usually use breaks to change the Baseline. For mids and highs depends.

I think this is the best to start learn.
Cause if you learn how to beatmatch and mix only using your ears (no BPM counters etc) you find the rest just add-ons.

my idea is just to learn your ears for beatmixing first by mixing two known same bpm's cause i remember that even matching the beats was quite difficult at first but after that i blocked all bpm counters (like putting stickers on top of them ) and learned to find right tempo. i have used these methods to teach beatmixing to many.           http://www.myspace.com/polly_potb

don't start calculating what your pitch range should be...it will get you nowhere

if you have albums that display the bpm in the booklet..make it so that you don't see the bpms from the tracks, the same with bpmcounters

just mix the music you like and it will all come in time

learning how to set a good que point is everything you need, all the rest is BS

i think the first step to mixing is learning to listen and appreciating all forms of sound without cribbing and calling it names like "shit track", "crappy tune" etc

Be open to everything
