so I am the only who feels like there's just nothing happening in terms of good ol heavy psy in states? everything seems to proggy this and tech that, is this really the sound that the people demand now or what? because this shit is not psytrance, why go to an outdoor party to hear this proggy techy bs when you can hear the same stuff in a club?? UGHH! wtf is going on, why have the crowds/ organizers turned their backs on real psychedelic music??
-end rant-

i know that we stepped back a bit from producing shows because the attendance just wasn't there. the small group that has been partying here for 10 years will always be at the good parties, but there is no guarantee of any more than them. we are certainly to blame for our lack of promotion, but there is something else going on too.
there are events that are on the darker side in the states. Atlanta with its world bridge party, texas throws some heavy parties, california (esp SF) throws darker parties, and portland does too, when we feel like losing a bunch of money
i am with you though, being a heavy producer in a light country is a little rough sometimes. the biggest crowd we ever played to was a kiddy rave in minneapolis, and most of those guys hadn't even heard psytrance before.
i could see dark psy matching itself up with some genres it hasn't so much in the past, like hardcore. the speed of dark psy these days is so fast that it just keeps a lot of people from ever getting over the first reaction to it. if we joined up with people who like fast music, i could see a little more x-over going on.

I think the "scene" is cyclical, and the iteration of the cycle that was into darkpsy got too busy, lost interest, etc. And, of course, it is relatively inaccessible music. Most people I know that were into high bpm darkpsy were introduced to the scene with more accessible music. Now that doesn't really happen, since organizers stopped throwing parties with the more accessible psytrance, and it seems unlikely that lots of people will make a natural progression from clubby stuff to crazy darkpsy.
Hopefully things will pick up again at some point.

seems like there's alot of fast and alot of tech on the east coast. heavy is something i like alot, not alot of heavy sound from what i've heard.
people confuse loud and fast with serious bassweight around here.
(if i actually ever make anything worth hearing, it'll be bass heavy… thats world away tho)

Apologies for a bit of a tangent but.....
I hear a lot of people who aren't necessarily around the Northeast say that it there is no 'heavy' music here, or that we only have full on parties or this or that.
The truth is, at least in NYC, we have a range of parties, from full on and prog to full power and dark.
In the past few months, my crew has brought Psymmetrix, Dirty Saffi, Asimilion, Loose Connection, and Chris Rich.
We are working to bring more artists like this in the future.... they may not be 'Dark', but this is certainly heavy psychedelic music.....
Additionally, the Northeast area has a handful of night or dark producers who have been doing great work and have been playing regularly, including Progress, Prishvin Mess, and (myself) as well as some top notch DJs who play the heavy psychedelic sound such as Brandon Adams.
While the Northeast may not be that receptive to 180 bpm trauma trance, that does not mean people up here don't like it heavy, just that heavy comes in many flavors, and up here it tastes a little different then down south/midwest/northwest.
And we also enjoy a nice flow to the night, so a party will most likely only have a few 'heavy' artists, instead of a whole lineup full of that sound... but that might be why we have Psy parties almost every weekend with crowds of 200-500....
The techy/prog sound is getting bigger out here, but I don't think it has become as prevalent as it is in SoCal...

pffft c'mon David. it is *obviously* common knowledge by now that everyone on this board forgets that you are in NYC.
