The link doesn't work.           Mushrooms make you do crazy stuff. Look at Mario he jumps on animal heads and fights with dragons.

This looks incredibly po-faced...since when was it not alright to go to parties with your mates and have an amazing time dancing to music you loved WITHOUT it being referred to as a shamanic ritual? Why is psy trance anymore shamanic than techno or drum'n'bass or happy hardcore for people who love those genres and lose themselves in the music? And what about genuine shamen who are often born into their "roles" and live the life to the absolute "t"...do you think they look kindly on middle class Westerners describing themselves or these events as shamanic?
This sort of stuff gives psy-trance a bad name...

Didn't see the doc yet, just scanned thru it, and it looks pretty standard for a psy doc. But at what point did they say it's not alright to go to parties without shamanic fulfillment? Anyway, that's totally not the case. It's okay to go to any party for any purpose without being judged for it.

Anyway, just a thought towards your question about why psy is more shamanic than other electronic or non electronic scenes. I'm not sure if I'm right, but it could be the INTENT that is WILLED upon by a certain psychedelic mind in order to invoke a SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE. Also the connection to ancient Hinduism, especially the aspect of a spiritual quest towards a more awakened and enlightened view of reality and the universe, and the rituals and traditions that go along with it. So it's kind of like an evolution of this specific quest that begin with the stories, for example say Shiva, who was otherwise a simple and innocent being, who would activate the higher consciousness through his Tandav (dance) and destroy the illusions, and ignorance of the mind, or in other words Universe.

Anyway, I'm not sure if I answered your question, but hope this helps in some way.

Hinduism signs are just fashion. It is cool to wear a t-shirt with ganesha on it. It is cool to talk about shakra's etc.. All the religion blahblah certainly didn't create a scene that is more open minded than the techno or drum n bass scene imho. The psytrance scene is only open minded if it is useful to them..           soundcloud.com/supergroover

Again, everything everyone is saying about the state of affairs in psy is correct to some degree. But what's important is the original idea of combining ancient and modern features to create a more balanced ecosphere.

Nothing wrong with any other scene honestly. And I think the problem is when psy or non psy ppl think of this culture also ONLY as a scene. That is not to say there isn't a scene aspect to it, and to some there is only a scene and nothing more. Because the commercial desires of some will try to push psy also as just a scene or genre.

But it is not really that. It's roots are very different from anything else. Not because it was created in Goa, but because it was created out of a quest for the truth. It's like the music just got created by accident, because of the electronic sound that was being discovered in Europe.

But it started as a quest for young westerners to escape the system they were born in, but what they discovered was something beyond their wildest imaginations. The philosophies of the Ancient Indians about using certain techniques of dance, music, substances, mediation, etc along with knowledge of the self to break free from the illusory nature of the entire universe itself and not just a man made socio - economic - political system of the west, was a mind blowing discovery. And to combine the progress of the west with the secrets of the east (or any other ancient culture) created something amazing.

Anyway, a lot of this may sound cliche, far out, crazy, or just gibberish, to some, many, or all, but I don't know how else to explain it.

Not like I know everything, these are just my 2 cents.

I agree with randulon and I agree with muzk.

With randulon's point, I agree that as soon as you label something it loses that very same thing you put on it. (Like when you go to complement a dj when he's playing and the very next track he either fcks up his beatmatach or plays some shitty thing that makes you leave the dancefloor in embarrassment for just complementing him).

With muzk's point, I totally agree and tell people the same when I'm asked: that psychedelic trance is created with an intention that we know and recognize as psychedelic.

It's just that when you say it's psychedelic or spiritual, you sound like a dumbass unless you add "... for me".
But even then... LOL

To myself, I know it's helped my spirit grow and that's manifested in my outward life in ways I could only dream. So yeah, the good shit that I love is indeed what I would call spiritual and empowering and all that.
