Beacuse many people do take drugs. Many people also take drugs in Hip Hop parties, Rock concerts, etc.
Trance parties will always have that stimga, but since many younger people are listening to trance now in might loose it in few years.

There are a lots of drug users on trance parties world wide, but i think that situation is better in these days, or it just maybe in Serbia.
I am djing here for a while, and I never use drugs, also my good friends, and coworkers djs and producers whit i am hanging around, there are also str8 ...
At the end it is mather of fact for every person personally, and that is there choice. Only we can do, is to educate ppl ...

yes its sad but true
trance is very strongly associated with drugs....atleast here in india
its not that the outsiders relate this...its the trancers themselves

Tuesday night, a small gathering of friends in my apartment :
"- Friend : Hey, what are these CDs ?
- Me : Psychedelic Trance.
- F : Wow, never heard of that. Could we have a listen ?
- M : Sure !"
I played "LSD" by Hallucinogen. Good musical introduction, but not for the names regarding the drug issue ! 
"- F : Well, I could find it good... if I was stoned.
- another F : yep, and the people dancing to this music do it 12 hours straight. You can't do that if you're just on water. Drugs is the key"
Just another example... how sad.

few days ago i was in a lecture by an anthropologist who explores the scene of the trance parties. i think he's doing researchers about this more then 5 years.
at first i thought he is going to introduce the whole thing about trance parties but i was wrong.
at first he showd a movie of a big trance party in israel and after it he turn the viewers attention to some ppl the camera accedently catch who look "high".
then, he explaind about all the drugs posabilities in parties, how it connects to the music and the crowd... and i was very disapointed...
he said few interesting points about drugs but this guy actualy travel in parties over the world more then 5 years and this is what he talks about? drugs?
he was perfect in exploring the drugs and their effects... he did a great job on that but calling himself a "trance parties anthropologist"?
o.k... there are drugs in parties no boubt... but thats it? drugs?
after i left i knew exsactly what wich one of the ppl who were there thinks about trance parties...
and honostly... ppl can think what they want i dont realy care anymore...
im just having the best time of my life. just flow baby... just flow... |

Sorry to burst your bubble  but in my experience the majority or at least a very high percentage of people going to the parties go because of the drugs. Unfortinently the music comes second to a lot of people.
And I am not surpriced that people think the trance scene is made up by a bunch of drugheads... It's our own fault. We have for too long promoted our scene as the Drug Heaven and praised drugs as our "God".
Maybe if we started to tone the drug use/abuse down and concentrated more on the music (which it should be all about) then there's a chance that Media's and "normal" people and for that matter Authorities and Gouvernments will look at us differently. But it's 100% sure that it does not help when major drughead artists and label managers (I wont mention any names - you know who they are) promote drugs so openly on CD covers and in every single interview they make. The only result they create is that Authorities and "ordinary" people then say that they were right from teh start about the scene and another result is that newcommers get exposed to Black & White one sided opinion about drugs and NOT the downside of drug use/abuse.
But of course this is just my opinion and experience. there's many views in our scene about how things shoudl be. |

at a conversesion i had a few days ago with a young patient of mine relating trance-parties, he told me that at a party one who doesn t hold a bottle of water and doesn t look high is not accepted and feels like he doesn t fit in :(
now this young guy has related trance-parties with drugs,because thats the first picture he got from the hole scene!
sad but true,it all comes from the inside!!!!!!!

drugs i think are generally at any party u go to, not only trance parties. go to a rave, hip hop, rock n roll, what ever friggin recreational event u can think of, drugs are always there. to solely target trance parties as the be all and end all is a bit absurd... |
