Oh, can you guys help me out? I know (or, I think I know) that there are these magical boxes that are digital but have CV outs, and they digitally generate ADSRs/LFOs that get converted to CV - so that you can buy the cool modules/oscillators/filters and keep them analog but get all these crazy advanced modulations from the digital box.
Is that a MIDI to CV converter? I did a quick google but couldn't find what I want.

do you have sound card with spdif or adat/optical out?
look for expert sleeper es3/ es4 ect.. your modular/analog synth become almost like a plugin in the daw with sample accurate timings, it s great to integrate it

nope, no spdif or optical out.
Basically what I want is easy integration with Ableton and my Ableton Push whenever it comes, so that I can send the velocity and pressure changes from the Push to whatever modular/synth I'm using at the time, as well as digitally generate modulation sources for said modular.
Is that a pipe dream?
It's weird when I'm back in that position of not knowing how to ask the right question hehe. Noobland here I am again!

you would need a sound interface that let you use expert sleepers silentway but yeah i think you can do all you want and more.. ( contact the guy from expert sleepers to be sure )
with a dc coupled audio interface you can use the analogs outputs to send cv but to me it s not optimal as it take analog i/o from the soundcard while my adat port is always free and give 8 channel with es3 . |

usb to adat lightpipe if something like this exist
with spdif you can use es4 but maybe modulations won t be as smooth ,the resolution is lower .(not sure about this )

Resolution problems are sorted with a Slew Limiter module which irons out the stepping. I had the cheap Slew Limiter module from Doepfer which made MIDI stepping, disappear.

i was wondering about the fonction of slew limiter ,for what it s usefull for , it s too make the signal more smooth? |

oh, sweet I didn't know that existed. yah in that case the ES-3 looks perfect. Thanks guys

i think it would be possible to start with just a vco ,a lpg like optomix and es3.
or vco ,vcf,vca and es3 |

theres a difference between spdif optical and adat optical
spdif is for the es-4
adat is for the es-3
not the same thing. even though there both light pipe
ive looked everywhere and it looks like it would work but it wont
tbh,,,i think that this side of control ie. modular computer integration is still in its infancy as there are several ways of doing it and none either offer an affordable and easy solution
http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/es3.html
http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/es4.html
heres one format that uses the copperlan protocol over lan connection, (my moneys on this format, as most computers already got a socket
http://www.alyseum.com/product_MS-812.php?PHPSESSID=a08e42ff6e3fd095704f6e9719d47596
also dont forget this little bad boy offers 4 cv channels over usb, need more channels add another,(only uses a usb socket)
http://www.keithmcmillen.com/qunexus/overview
(sorry bout rudess;s mug shot on the page)
so yeah, what do you do, buy something that could be a heafty investment, sound card cv interface and so on of go for ths smaller limited and cheeper option
slew and lag are roughly the same function , one affects rising cv signals and the other effects falling cv signal
lovely if you put a s/h to pitch through this and tweek them for various glide type stuff |

Its a lag processor, you use it to make portamento, you can also use it to smooth out CVs, including the MIDI stepping.
