A DJ is a person that has the ability to entertain a crowd into a party, this means he has the appropriate music to do so,he has the ability to choose the right music for the right moment,he has the ability to MIX his music and this is very critical since most people who consider themself as a DJ cannot even beatmatch while real DJ's can even play with 3 cdj's and do crazy things that will amaze the crowd instead of creating them a headache.

Also many other things distinguish a DJ from a wannabee Disc Jockey such as appearence and perfomance on decks. If you are looking for some serious DJ's then i suggest you watch out Dimitri Nakov,Ari Linker,Dino Psaras and Boris Blenn. As from the few Greek dj's that we have i suggest to watch out for Nikos Liquid Love and Kostas Spiral.

Now about people who claim that are DJ's and play music with laptop's and mp3's then sorry guys but you are good only for playing music at your house.

Sometimes Detox you are very neggative. But you have right. And about what is a true Dj and about mp3s and laptops. Laptops must used only if the person has his own songs and havent the ability for beatmatching. Im not writing about mp3s... I know the logarithmic code Bad quality and you loose all psycho-acoustic of the song.
But its not necessary to mix with a three decks to be a dj. Good ability i say. Dj must have the ability to be a dancer a listener and a dj at the same time.

Absolut zero, can make the dancfloor pumping and jumbing very easily. This is the simple thing that a dj has to do.Make ppl dance

From athens i only heard psytour at neraida's last party and he was realy good regarding his style.I think that he has to watch his recordings (copy cds) in order to have the best possible outcome with sound quality. In general he was really good           don't fuck with me

Traktor and laptops, put a new style in mixing, allowing the dj to do some more stuff. I could be technical, but this isn't the place. As for the "real" dj's, who use cd's, well we all know that 90 percent of them use copied music. Detox, having the music on cd's doesn't mean it doesn't come from mp3's. Or some copy from a friend. Anyway, Greece is still suffering from lack of modern musical education. Especially in the trance scene. A good dj, in my opinion, is the one who can play something new, something different, someone who can reveal a story for the audience. Not the one who is showing off with a precalculated set, playing the music that the people expect, and be on the "safe mode". It is too bad that dj's who just want to "be the dj", with improper musical taste and education, take over the dancefloor. But then again, really good dj's turn out to be the producers. This is because you probably need to be an artist, with the wider meaning of the word, in order to fully understand and evaluate the music. I've met countless worthless posers in my time, who still get to play almost everywhere. And i've also met fist-timers who absolutely fascinated me with their class and taste. Just beware, it's not about the money, it's not about the fame. It's about people and musical experience. If PR is what you wanna do, ok. But please, don't say things in public, and take everyone for a malaka. Tsss...Sorry.

laptop djing is established in europe.uk,germany so don't b so negative about it.as chris cowie said technology is djing is nice cause it allows the dj to remix the tracks live like playing in a concert.in fact the majority if the live acts are playing live that way, don't u think?there are many great local djs but the one closer to my taste are kostas spiral, greg staikos, liatsikas.make a party my friends show us your skills.

i think that good djs in greece are Sam-acidance recs and Liatsikas from Athens. and Tim X treme,Doc from thessaloniki

about the laptops and softwares for mixing. well i think that for someone that only dj'ing is too much to go and play with a laptop.for my opinion i dont like it and i'd never do that in a party.for practice in home laptop and software is a good choise but 2nd choice if u have a mixer and 2 cd players

thanx tim-X-treme for your good words. about the quality of some tracks i played that u say.. .i have to say that all the djs, artists, people has in cd-case some bad quality cd's. its a curse since we all have internet in our lifes! by the way... i just put in my car mp3 player.hehehe           *Night Oracle Records

To me the best dj's in Athens(there are a lot which I haven't heard) are Iraklis Mindphaser(I get high when you do hard track tricks), Nikos Liquid Love(gimme some old school drama) and Nikos who played at Ambientrancedelica 1 before Iraklis(you spaced me out man, cheers). In the darker hour Stefanos-Psytour is the man. Also Nikitas looks really promising.

P.S. About Tractor: I definetely think that at the end of the night it is what you play that matters. I personally enjoy decks much more.

thnks TIM but i believe that you have great skills too,
remember our back to back set at arideas open air event it was realy great set

i thing that there are a lot of great greek dj's all over the country but they don't have the chance to prove it,
at this time i thing that doc, sadi, minimental, lory, kulu and many more have great mixing skills no matter the music still,

well it's not a secret that the trance scene as well as many other scenes are flooded with wannabe DJ's.
It's very easy to get up there with your CD/mp3 collection and mix some random selected tracks... Every amature can do that! It's much harder to surprise people on the floor, to be technically skilled and know how to communicate with people on the dancefloor. That takes true talent and a lot of experience.
