my mixing was bad realy crap to be honest i use to play vinyle alot and see old djs that put dat and just volume the mixer so i thought mixing was just showing off today
to be honest i think its a matter of taste i v heard in tailand and goa djs out 1 cd after the other and i fliped
from the nice music was exellent but yes today a dj must
practive on mixing ,its not a contest i who is beeter its fun and u feel nice when u achive and nice mix ,djs sould try and if u get it wrong and people say shit ,leave them thats the piont u practise and learn no 1 is perfect,,,

"just appearing on the decks"? i guess the problem rather is that the organisator books them for a dj-set additionally to the live-act so he can put another shiny name on the flyer. in no way it is the fault of the artist. every organiser should demand demos from their dj's, no matter if it is an artist or a full-time dj.           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

^ Im sorry anak, i feel that an artist shud know his limits , if he really cant do a dj set, then why do it.. thats wat i ask ..
ur part of organiser helpin the "not good" dj to play, is correct.. but in the end, its the artist who has to decide wats rite and wrong ..
cud be... its always abt money?

yea there would be lot of organisers who do what anak said jus book them for a additional dj set other then live one for extra attraction. but for example in india we generally have most parties with dj sets and no live sets reason being no live setup available on hire easliy and artist charge more for live which is difficult to recover.. so i agree that the artist should know his potential as dj and should deny a dj set if he not good at it and alos every organiser should demand for a demo cd before they decide to book any artist for dj sets.           -=DIGITAL OM PRODUCTIONS=-

Agreed

Dj ing is a skill and a musical form all to it's self. Oftern overlooked by promotors who try to get as many live acts on a line up , forgetting that a good Dj can interact with the crowd there and then, where as the live is not live at all and can only go down the pre set path configued earilier.

This I think can have a negative effect on the whole flow of a party. A Large international promotor has said the same to me the otherday and he will be focusing on bringing back the DJ as the important element of a party.

So I would love to name and shame ,but will not, but to say there are some truly shocking dj's out there trading on their Name/position. Time to wake up and smell the coffee I think and get some decent DJs back on the line up

Mixing skills are totaly overrated.
take for an example raja ram, mixing sucks bad time but still he drives people nuts everytime he plays, it's more of chemistry that comes between dj and crowd.

well on other hand if you want to make party with "storyline" and u want every dj keep the story going on and people find their way to trance you should only book dj's that know what they are doing.

but for festivals and big parties where every dj/live represents only himself and his only purpose is to make people go nuts book the dj with most charisma and he will deliver
