Copying cd's is just as bad as downloading them. I am not saying that it's ok for me to copy a cd from a friend because "at least someone paid for it".

If you are a DJ (and I'm not, by the way) you are expected to have all the latest music. If you have to play for 3 hours each weekend you have to get some serious amounts of music, and you can't have them on MP3.

Psy-trance is not pink floyd. It's not like you can buy a cd and then listen to it for 30 years. We have to get new blood constantly.

You don't get paid well when you are a psy-trance DJ, you do it becuase you love it.
And if you don't get paid for it people should understand that you are loosing money just so they can have the freshest tunes.

That's how I see the psy-trance scene. Everybody is doing their part but nobody is here for the money. That's why I don't feel bad about copying original cd's.

When I go to a party and I listen to new music for 12 hours straight I have no doubt that it can't all be original... especially when you know the guys who orginized it.

We are here to have fun, not to make money. The reason I started this thread was beacuse I was concerened about the quality of my music, not because some artists are loosing money.

...And when I say 12 hours parties I don't mean Israel.

Here 90% of the scene is just about making money and it's fucking horrible. But let's not go off-topic and leave it to another thread.           If God dropped acid, would he see people?

It's indeed illegal world-wide to take someones music (unreleased or not) and put it on the internet for free downloading.... And it's indeed also illegal to download the music without permission from the one holding the Copyright - also in switzerland!
The law against people buying stolen goods apply here and it's not anything I am making up. Ask any law expert and they'll agree.

No they will disagree. The law against people buying stolen goods does not apply to 'downloading' cause Intellectual property is not a 'good', second the stuff is not stolen but reproduced/distributed without permission and third, downloading does not technically constitute reproducing by the downloader...without an original you can't make a copy. The uploader/sharer is regarded as the one that makes the copy. Furthermore, stealing is penal law and a copyright infringement is civil law.

Here in the netherlands downloading is legal....'That kind of private use is exempted from copyright but uploading is definately not' according to our minister.

well sorry but I (and I believe many more) disagree.. sounds like you don't really appreciate the music too much.. what would be the point of buying a cd if it was so bad that it didn't last longer than a week?           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

Wow, traveller, Elysium and me agreeing on something!!!

There are quite a few Trance CDs that I think will go with me till the day I die (that will never happen of course, but just in case)

I too will not go to the q of mp3s vs. burned cds. If we are talking quality-wise, the answer is scientifically clear (originals -> burned are better). Morally, they are close relatives of each other...

...and it sounds to me like YOU are the one who don't appreciate the music. And as always traveller, you keep missing the point...

I didn't say I will buy a cd and after a week I will stop listening to it.
I said I will buy a cd and after a week I will buy ANOTHER cd. Kapish? I have time to listen to both of them.

New music is released each week. And I want to have it, or at least the tracks I heared at parties. Is it not appreciating music?

I am trying to update my case as often as posible but it doesn't mean I throw my old cd's away!
