No. This is not one of those "MP3 - good or evil?" threads. Although it is quite similar.

I came back to Israel recently after spending some time overseas. I was amazed to see how big the MP3 industry is around here.

I am not talking about the fact that people here got 10GB of music on their hard drive, I am talking about the way people just don't care if it's quality or not anymore.

I don't want to talk about this subject becuase it has been done too many times.
MP3 - low quality and easy to get.
Original cd - high quality, but why pay when you can get it for free?

I will tell you how I got my music till now:
You take a group of people, lets say 5 of them. Then you buy cd's online and split the costs. One person get the original and the others burn themselfs a copy.

That way everyone is happy!! You might say that from the artists' point of view burning cd's is just as bad as downloading them, but I would like to disagree on that:

When you know you have to pay 15$ for a cd, you will think twice before buying it, but when you have to pay 2-3$ for a cd, you couldn't care less.
What we used to do was to order all the new releases from psyshop and saikosounds every 2 weeks or so. I didn't buy just stuff I like. I also paid for music that I wouldn't even download for free. If it's a new release - let's but it.

But now, when I am back in Israel, I can't find people who would do the same. So anyone who reads this and likes the idea (and he is in Israel...) is welcome to contact me. This is not a pyramide game or anything... honestly. I am just looking for a few people who would split the costs of original cd's with me. For the sake of our culture and our ears.

Much thanks.

well that's better than downloading mp3s but it's still wrong..

isn't it the same if i buy 1 album and then download 4 and then buy 1 album again?           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

If you enjoy mp3, you might as well download 5 albums and pay for 0.

I just don't want mp3.           If God dropped acid, would he see people?

Nope, downloading mp3s is legal in many countries. Reproducing stuff, burn it on a CD and gain financial benefit by selling it to others is far more evil...

EP, with music you buy a license to hear it. With a pair of jeans you can do anything you want it because you own it. Levi's cannot oppose to me cutting the pair of jeans in half and give it away to 2 friends. You can oppose if I cut one of your trax in half and give 2 friends each a piece. Its simply not the same.

I like to see the law in any country saying that it's legal to download mp3's without the copyright holders permission.

come to switzerland then...

and, i understood your point too.
i mean, if a friend of mine has got a cool cd, i ask him to burn it, unless i really want the original one...i dont think there is anything wrong in there...           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

Then Anakoluth just read what's written on the CD and you'll fast see that it's very wrong and indeeed illegal to copy a CD unless it's for backing up the CD for the person that bought the CD!

And again SHOW me the law in any country that says it's ok to download mp3's without the copyrightholder's permission.

kristian, there is no law about it. indeed there is a law against copying/downloading stuff and sell it....but at least in switzerland i dont know of any law that say u aren't allowed to trade copies/mp3..

to the other thing...i pass pretty my time with the same two or three guys around here. we are all cd buyers and we listen music all the time when we're together, and if i really ike what another puts on i'm not ashamed to ask for a copy...i'm not against trading because its illegal..           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

It's indeed illegal world-wide to take someones music (unreleased or not) and put it on the internet for free downloading.... And it's indeed also illegal to download the music without permission from the one holding the Copyright - also in switzerland!
The law against people buying stolen goods apply here and it's not anything I am making up. Ask any law expert and they'll agree.

It's you that have to see your own fac i n the mirror everyday knowing that you are copying someone music and therefore stealing it! You sure wont get any respect from me for doing that

well actually there's no legislation about it in quite a few countries i'd imagine.. just cos it doesn't say anywhere that it's legal doesn't mean that it's illegal..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

There are no Laws to legal thigs that makes no sence at all lol!!!!

Laws are there to tell whats illegal not whats legal!

If there is now law saying its illegal than it is legal, im sorry but thats just common sense...

About copying cds...well im pretty sure its illegal,

but I definetelly won't say I feel bad when I look in the mirror because I copied someone cd, looolll, sorry thats just hilarious!:)

And about the jeans example...EP, u had already said a similar example to me but with my neighbour car, and sorry, and I'll tell the same thing...If a friend of mine could replicate their jeans for free, I would definetelly want some jeans also, but with jeans and cars things don't work like that...we don't have jeans or cars burners, just cd burners

Anyway, I already said what I had to say regarding this in other posts, I don't use mp3, I buy cds, but I also do not believe anyone here has never copied a cd from a friend.

"No man...I don't wan't your cd, thats illegal man!" hummm....don't see it happening, many other important things to worry about...

And i don't think it can be called stealing...its replicating, its a totally diferent thing

Peace

PS - to avoid misunderstandings, im not promoting piracy, I just don't think its a very serious crime, there are ppl killing each other out there.
