Actually.... it's not the number of people that makes a party, its the quality and vibe. I've played at multiple indoor parties here in Europe, and Russia, and Japan, and I never quite found the family vibe I have experienced in US parties. I went to my first outdoor in Europe just this past week, and the vibe and even flow reminded me of what you would see at Gemini, or Gaian Mind... so don't just jump to conclusions...
A lot of parties in Europe are just money making ventures in many places, the vibe dying when it became profitable.... There's something that the parties in the states really hold dear to me, maybe less people, maybe people more concerned in making sure everyone has a good time than whether or not they make money...

I wasn't talking about amount of people attending parties. Besideds Solipse '99 I've never been to BIG festival. But I had a chance to go to many great smaller parties (indoor and outdoor) in England, Holland and Poland.
Never had a chance to experience Gemini nor Gaian Mind (I'm thinking about going to GM this year).
Heading to NYC this weekend to check east coast 
Also, I have to admitt I felt great vibe@Oracle Gathering party in Seattle last summer (only time I had a chance to check west coast so far) - it reminded me of european spirit.

I don't mind when people are making money providing high quality services (music, soundsystem, deco&lightning, add-ons like workshops or marketplace). I don't have a problem paying more for something that will look exactly like it was advertised (so often many things look good only on the flyer here in US).
Dunno ... maybe it's only our Midwest thing. Maybe it's the rave people element. Maybe I should check more parties on both coasts. Maybe it's my memories. Or maybe the fact you are/are not surrounded by your fellow countrymen makes the difference.
So far Burning Man is the best thing I've experienced here in US.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying US scene is bad. I guess I'm getting older/seen to much and it's getting harder and harder to satisfy my tastes
