Is it just me or there is realy to much full on tracks in this days. the Isralians compilation its 100% full on (no progressive like in part 3).

after the Astrix strike with his "eye to eye" album to many artist are into full on Trance now.

Don't get me wrong. i love this kind of trance but....           -=The Meaning Of Life Is To Give Life A Meaning=

why does it have to be israeli? can't you listen to progressive music from other countries?           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

What is too much in your opinion? i think too much is too little sometimes, it depends on your point of view. Here is NY, full on is the main type of psy-trance for a while, it is the strongest sub genre of psy trance that has kept through the years... for a while last year, i felt like this type was getting uninteresting and boring... well its not the case now, maybe it took some adjustment from my side, but i really think that the full on formula's have changed and that wonderful work is going on in that world. Israel is not the only country for full on by any means, brazil is kicking ass right now and so are some more places like portugal and australia where the scene is lifing up.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Yes, here in brazil we have at least 90% full on on the dancefloors... But not the same old full on.

Look at the new ways in which full on is developing, low bpm, fat basslines, lots of amazing melodies... It's still full on, but it's different, and better (IMO)...

I think the definition of 'progressive' has overused itself. Why dont you want to call Astrix progressive? maybe its not traditional danish/german/swed minimal style, but the music is still progressing from one point to another in the track (progressive) and also it is a progression from old-style goa to a new kind of sound that still keeps the spirit of old times. and astrix is just an example, u can find it nowdays in so many bands, my best example is Sub6, which their music I consider to be the best progressive trance I've heard for years, and it also fits into the full-on class.

I believe that many ppl in the scene (like me) are a bit sick of the same deep, interesting, 'high quality', 'upper-class' minimal/progressive style. It gets you in the first minute with the deep impressive sound, and after that - nada. Progressive trance comes from Goa trance, and I believe that we HAVE to know where we are comming from in order to know where we are going to. I lost it for a long period of time and am happy to be back with the old feeling of uplifting that made me dive into this music in the first place.

sure helen astrix is progressive, no doubt.
progressive trance came from a long process of blending different dance styles as goa trance, progressive house, deep trance etc..
and we sure dont know where we r going (if we was it was very boring) but we know one thing for sure - Drumms Dont Stop.

It seems there is a kind of 5-year cycle in the popularity of the different subgenres of Psy Trance :
1993-1997 : Melodic. Then people get bored with multi-layered melodies, and we had...
1998-2002 : Minimal, or Techtrance, or whatever you want to call it. And then some people said : jeez, enough with this ! This is techno, not psy !
2003-? : Full-on ! Some melodies, yet not to the extreme of the 1944-96 era, but with more fuss than minimal.

Of course, this is very artificial : you could always find different sounding tracks through the past ten years. That's why I'm talking about what's "in".

As far as I'm concerned, I feel a bit sad today since I don't appreciate neither Full-on nor Minimal a lot. I prefer the weird, pure psychedelic sounds Hux Flux, Kox Box and the likes produced in the good old days... But hey, you still can find some pearls of that kind today !

jeff> try the weird ass music that comes from finland. i know a lot of goa people who found north european hope
and btw, you timeline is not correct. you can't do that. even in full on there were different times (so as progressive, minimal and techtrance)

about prog. the term progressive is not about progressed music. it's about tracks that have a progressive structure. an evolution in the direction of the track itself, not in the styles of trance, so i wouldn't call astrix prog.           REHAB is for quitters

ok Gilad, I take note of your remark on my simplistic timeline. Though I doubt two different persons on this little scene will ever agree on the definition of the subgenres

The Scando sound, yes, I tried some, Schlabbaduerst rekkords for example. Interesting indeed.

A comp from South Africa, Emergence, that I was recommended to that extent, is presently waiting for me in the post office. Hope I'll be able to get it tomorrow night !

Last thing, I have a hard time understanding your definition of "progressive" : "an evolution in the direction of the track itself". Huh, unless you repeat the same loop over and over again during 8min, I don't see how a track could be built differently ?

I wouldn't call Astrix progressive too, but it sure have some progressive elements (IMO).

And about the Sub6: It's full on, but it have lots of progressive elements and some old goa elements too... I don't know how to call it, I just know it rocks! Who needs a classification anyway?

jeff.
a progressive track is a track which progresses while the track goes on. the artist adds more and more with time. a lot of tracks are like that, most of them actually, but in progressive this structure is the main thing in the track.
saying that progressive is only DS, iboga etc stuff is wrong.           REHAB is for quitters

Chaos u are right!
lots of djs and labelowners changed to fullon, because its the style which is calles "IN".

but im sure this is just a wave..
like the progressive- or dark- or minimalwave

fullon has been inspired by progressive elements
and now we have this 2002/2003 fullon.

and im sure the proggy ones will be re-inspired
by the fullon wave and u will get some 2004/2005
proggy fullon fusion maybe.

maybe? i am sure!
