its not really what you use. its the application and processing only!

I agree to a point, but some soft synths/hardware are better for certain sounds, bass is no exception.

I spoken to a good number of top progressive guys and they all use trillian, cant be a coincindence surely, check post by e-klipse he compared many plugins.           https://soundcloud.com/pro-gram-0

the source needs to be good! but it really is much more down to how you make it fit your track! that's where you win or loose, regardless of how good the machine you're using is!

that's obvious since there's no single preset that will instantly make you sound like a pro! there's no such thing! you can get that kind of bass with most synths in the market, provided they've got the basic ingredients, like: an oscillator that's got phase reset, responsive/snappy envelopes for filter modulation and amp and a decent sounding low pass filter. if you replace the oscillator with some sampled waveform/rom that's fine, if you record some notes from some machine and stick it in a sampler, it's fine to.

maybe its also because they are also a bit copy-cats, most 'top-progressive' is very similar, not only in bass-sound           http://soundcloud.com/vipal

Yeah its a fair shout Vipal, but I know that they are top of the game in production and a lot recommend that plugin.
Every tool will have its own character for sure, I personally quite like Dune, but on e-klipse's demo it sounds shit, which clearly supports that post processing is important..

Care to share your flegma style bass?

Sylenth1 and Cronox2 has that edgy sound, similar to Trillian.

Again: ppl care too much on bass, and too little on kick.           LOADING...

Trilian is really great for basslines, Sylenth 1 reminds me on default ARP 2600 saw character wise, but that's about it, change saw and you have something noticeably different in character already, many filters and you can get surgical with envelope curves too, it's really awesome all-rounder for bassline duty.

Sounds like psybass made in sylenth1, with a 12db filter instead of 24.

also probably not hard to make either

WORD! +1.000.000

I've heard many really weak KB combos around here lately, mainly from rookies, doing darker psy styles, and the kick isn't even audible, you just hear a little klick and some low end mud.

if your kick is sexy enough, you could just fill in three notes with fart sounds in between, and it'd still sound fabulous.            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

I said I like it dirty, not muddy.

+1 on importance of the kick

tried to recreate it. not perfect but ok i guess?

no plugin on the kick, just raw out of the synthesizer sonic academy kick

bass is sylenth1 and keep an eye on some nice highend for the clickyness of the bass

You nailed it killik, pretty much.
i think flegma might have just a tiny bit longer sustain on the bass but that's all. Or just longer midi notes.            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

Hi killik
Can you say a little bit more in details the construction of the kick and bass? i mean the transient and bottom of the kick and and the attack of the bass with the high end?
