I feel like seinfeld here but: "Whats the deal with finland?" no seriously, for while now, as veteran trancist hungry for new excitement, i've been told and almost preached to that finnish trance is the cutting edge! the greatest thing since sliced bread! well im sorry, i dont get it! i tried, god knows i tried! from Texas Faggot to Mandavandalaz to Salakavala to Flying scorpions to squremeat to anything off the new compilation: "Totally AntiScrapped".... is it me? or does most of it sound like it was made on a commodore 64? ok maybe commodore 128.... some of the stuff like squaremeat is very prof. and im sorry for including some finnish acts that dont do this, but: why cant these people work on serious production sounds? and why are the people loving this inferior sound, a sound youre paying good money for, please help us stop it, please help us stop it, a major problem in finland. all i hear is silly sounds and "funny" samples that i think diminish from the progress in production trance has made over the years.... im going into my bunker for the commencement of the retaliation bombing....

LOL...
I can understand your point. I don't connect to that music either. It's a music that you either love or hate. You cannot stay indifferent to it.

I guess this style is expanding since the minimal progressive lovers who are disapointed by the turn of minimal / progressive music to house and yet don't like full on, found an extremesit psychedelic music.
This is my point of view. I may be wrong.
Again, I don't conect to that style either. Sorry.           Majority is never right!

One thing that must be said for sure is that Finnish trance has a special charachter. I guess the Finnish people has one as well.

I think that some of the trance released in Finland or by Finish artists is definitely very interesting.
What I must say for it, is that most of it is really tries to capture one aspect that to a certain extent was lost in trance, and that is the freshness and experimentalism in the music. A lot of the Finnish artist keep searching and trying and looking for new directions at all costs.
They also make very funny music a lot of the times.

I do agree that in many cases that comes in a bad package (production), and for me it kinda ruins it. I was never persuaded by the explanation that this is part of what the artist wants to say.

There is however real exciting music made in Finland, it definitely hangs around boarder or extends them.
I like Pelinpala, Squaremeat, Outolintu, and some of the stuff released by Surreal Audio. My favorite is Possible Apple, but he's really got nothing to do with trance. All these are extremely funky!
Also there's Highpersonic Whomen, which is "normal" trance, just that its so full of feel, that it's not that normal comparing to a lot of releases today. Also for those who miss the good old Goa days- check the new Blissful Moments from Tranceform.

Finnish trance is the most exciting thing that happened to the trance scence since the day Hallucinugen's Twisted album was released.

As a minimal progressive fan, I can understand you sound quality freaks saying that this music is crappy. However, music is not all about sound production, there are other things too.

Today's trance lacks a certain component which is very hard to explain, that thing that made us go wild when Spitirual Healing was playing, or when Astral Projection where making their first steps in music making.

I find myself listening to Texas Faggott's Rock the Beat Now over and over again, and this track just drives me crazy. Yeah, right, it's not even close to "crystal clear sound", so what?

Another thing about finnish trance, is that the music is mostly random most of the times, always trying to innovate, be creative, unexpected. I was talking about it with a friend and he said that the unexpectancy of this music is actaully too expected. He may be right, but then again, as I said before, it's FUN

Finnish trance has a magic within it that can't be explained. Psychedelic, random, psychic, call it what you want, it's just good.

And my favorite finnish albums for those who are interested:
Texas Faggott - Both albums (especially the second one, amazing stuff there)
Mandalavandalz - Hong Kong Knightlife - another amazing album by Timo from Texas Faggott, extremely good stuff there, especially the track "Sweet Runner" which is one of the most ridicules tracks I've ever heard, but also one of the best.
Kingston Wall - The Remixes - A remixes CD to the finnish rock band Kingston Wall.
Accu - Accu - Not exactly trance but still worth listening to.
Pelinpala - My CD Has Landed on the Neighbor's Dog - Another good CD, extremly innovative.
Kiwa - Dreamtime Enhancer - This can be called progressive finnish trance, just listen to it.

There`s almost "every" kind of psytrance in Finland too. Certain kind of sound and spirit surely characteraise some stuff (beginning from Sörkka Sound compilation cd 95 or 96 or other action anyways earlier) but as mentioned there`s HPW, Kiwa, SM and future EvsY etc. for quite much top-notch production. TF and MV are virtuose pieces mostly. But lot of stuff on top of another and laptop-attitude do not please everyone o c.

OK, I'll put it like this.

About the production values of the music from Finland - 99% of it never gets on CDs. A lot of artists there give out their own tracks on the internet, for anyone to listen to. It's a scene that's so far NOT contaminated by commercial aspects, or at least MUCH less than the other scenes in the world - and while it often leads to an amature sound, it leads to some really nonconventional music.

I don't like most of it myself, but I must admit, some tracks are just so much wild, uncontrolled fun. And for all the people that enjoy listening to this at home - when you hear this stuff on the dancefloor, it works much better than you'd expect it.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Ohmboy there is no problem with fin music
problem is with closed mind ppl
if u take some oldschool track and compare it to some of new "style" of any comertial trance u'll c the difference.
soon trance will be like drum&bass (it is already happening with almoust all minimal and progressive artists),and loop&brake (gms astrix and all other shit like that)
ppl build a drum line and bass line and release it on labels and its getting to be borrining more and more
well thats not music for me
as oldschool lover finn music is the only music out there to hear
and yes they dont care about "clear sound"
(i dono whats the problem with not clear sound, its sounds good enough)
and yes......
progressive begin to sound like deep house
fullon is nosence random sounds with kick on background
all gms clubtrance i dont want to mention at all
no music for brain
fin music IS PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC and not TRANCE bulshit
so what else left to hear exept of finn music and IMD???

and still 1 track of Texas Faggott brings crowd to level of joy that none of artists can make in whole live act or album
think about it

now playing Texas Faggott - Hector Sector

boom           Jesus didnt dance, but his beat goes on

Finland at their kid age of trance evolution export crazy tunes for everybody joy. poor sound quality, alot of humor in music, too many crunchy psychedelic sounds and tons of selffun of a process it self. pioners feeling in it.
for me Kiwa its a only Finnish act i like and look for future releases.
but hey, 4 years before same was said about Sweeden trance, it was like "hey, do u heard scando sound ?? its tottaly crazy and different !!" today ppl say its too much commerzial.. lets see what will going at Finland in 3 years, i think they will make great crazy pop..

i will hear some kompakt and morr, as today + here and there some deep trance for night flight and melodic fluffy clubby shit for ass shaking

u said what i mean - already now u see as finnish old dudes start produce those scando progressive sounds (i liked kiwa prety much, not great but normal music), fresh acts as ... (u know better the names:)) still make their music with atari and prefer fun of proces and not studio serious wrok, but in few years their mind will keep the fact they want produce sound, make it as better as they can, then they will start make better production with less humor in music itself, its naturaly, most of artists going this way.
and hey, i didnt said now they make bad music, its just me that dont like it:)
