a friend of mine in LA once capped on himself so hard, i almost fell over. My first time at his house, looking at his record collection (no longer a dj, now a producer) he says, "Dude, if you liked 1996, then I'm your DJ, if not, you're shit out of luck"          We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

Hey everyone. Thanks for the support. I must say that it means a lot to be mentioned as a favorite DJ. Especially in a genre that has gone completely CD as far as DJing goes. As for some favorites, in the field of DJing, number one in my book is still Dutch. Treavor from Moontribe definitely has a way with mixing as well. Both seem to know when to go full-on or tune in down which is big for me since most DJs I've seen lately seem to just slam the dancefloor with everything they've got. As for producers, Random has always been one of my favorites. I've been listening to tracks from Torin and Yohei and I think they're in contention for best new artists in the area.

I think Treavor makes music with Desert Dwellers, but it's two other guys and they make mainly psy-chill-ambient stuff.. Strangely enough, they just played a live set in my living room on Thursday night.

it was a performance for the new show on www.desertfm.com that runs every Thursday 8-11pm MST.

After seeing them live recently, I can safely say that Nuclear Ramjet are definitely one of the best North American acts out there.           Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

Not really sure if he can be considered american but fo sho my main man gadi and his act contra are gonna make some heads turn, brains tweak and feet stomp this year. contra are makin some serius music, especially if you enjoy a style similar to a combination of hujaboy and cpu. smashing stuff. as for his dj skills that mornign at the tdc festival in the summer... to come on after polaris/penta/cpu and mekkanika and to hold the floor and take the party to another level was just somethin spectacular. (Kudos to mikey as well these guys are an awsome duo when it comes to a vs set.)

bring it on gaaaaaaaaaaaaadi and smash a few floors on the way           "Like every great religion of the past we seek to find the divinity within and to express this revelation in a life of glorification and the worship of God. These ancient goals we define in the metaphor of the present—turn on, tune in, drop out."

From people I have heard recently (Goa Gil is up there in my all time favs):

Kaiser Soze (Touch Samadhi)
SOT ((Touch Samadhi)
(both of those two together )
Shagee (Esoteric Generation)
Freedom (Esoteric Generation)
(these 2 together are incredible too)
Toki (Audiognomes) (plays psy I never hear anyone else play, amazing stuff)

Ok, pretty much like a lot of people so will stop there. I have seen them all many many many times over the years and look forward to hearing them still! These are ones that I have heard enough to declare favorites thouhg

I'd say Penta is probably the "most popular" live act/DJ from the US.

Really hard to say about most others, since the scene is so young and so small, and there's maybe 10+ different live acts and 20+ DJs that play around the country on a semi-random basis. The distance separating various local scenes doesn't help either.

Generally, popularity is a concept that is applicable only when there's enough 'populace' to mine the data from. So ask in another year or two, ok?
