...yep...that's me infact...sorry again if my absolute statements upset anybody here.
anyway it's not me stating that the concept of chill out going on nowadays is a bit obsolete...it's many ppl...and what is happening here and there.
maybe it is starting from the fact that more and more of us feel frustated by the music and the vibe in the the so called dancefloor...so they find their refuge in the chill space and they still want to swing their bodies...
off course ideally (for the ones who like specialized areas) it should exist an alternative groovy dancefloor...but often it's not possible for space or budget reasons...and it would also split too much the energy of the party...
so what I am saying is that very very often the chill space is a dark forgotten spot down there...with ridicolus sound system and no lights...
instead many of us need a good space where to enjoy.
I love variety...and I love also the IDspiral style of chill...but not for too many hours...not all day...not all week...there is space and time for experiment and also dance .
Shahar...I am not saying that the chill out space should become just another structurized dancefloor...far from me...infact big respect to all the djs who play music to trip and listen... I also play that way very often...
I don't like instead who put rules...over this bpm no...under this bpm yes...more positive music pls and stuff like that.... I don't care if ppl are dancing or not...
but I don't like even djs who play just for themself.
when I am saying that the chill space at the existence was great I speak about what was happening between the ppl there...and the flow that made that space never boring (even during that movie) and a very active party area...also for trippers...
and there I played a brekbeat set around 135...with few tunes of ...ooopps... psytrance (loopus in fabula & antiscrap warriors)...that fitted perfectly...the ppl there seriously loved it (one serious lsd enlightment!)...
mostly women who can marvelous dance at 90 bpm and be very sexy at 130
while we all having great time I had to fight against the band who was playing after me who wanted that I go down with the fucking bpms...

something is changing...is it ?

Rui...I am against crap systems...expecially crap sound systemd

The fact is that way too many organizers (probably the majority these days) do not prioritize and respect chillout. They make a small crappy room with horrible sound and light and call it a chillout room. They book dj's and artists to perform for scraps which again witness their absolutely lack of respect for chillout and their associated artists and dj's.

The only way to improve chillout in parties and get back the respect is to stop saying yes to play for peanuts and NO to being disrespected. The day chillout dj's and artists start to look at themself as equal to the mega candy stars that's the day they will gain the welldeserved respect.

I would never say yes to:

1. play for free (unless it's a benefit thing).
2. pay my own transportation
3. play with shitty equipment in a shitty dumb in a backyard ..
4. play for a organizer that seem to care less for the chillout.

It's time other chillout/downbeat/dub/lounge artist and dj's take action and say NO to disrespect.

But I wonder it will ever happen since so many seem to be more than happy to be stepped all over just so they can play for matter what. People are way too eager to play to see that they are taken advantage of by organizers that laugh all the way to the Bank.

Again...we all made it happen, we all did our best and I think it was ''the beggining of an era'' the era of people who still like to dance but who doesn't like Trance anymore, it was good to feel that I was almost in control (blame-curse that movie)during the fest.
Regarding the ID-Spiral/Synergy project issue, It happened to me a few times during my last set for them...Dom running towards me to ask me to slow down the pace...mostly for the next DJ who was supposed to play at 90/100 bpm and I was at 135 by then (Dendron, God bless Ultrapop...eh Maux ??? )
but...who can deny ID-spiral/Synery ROCK big time when it comes to installations and chill concept???
Aaaanyway, in a long duration event there is place for everything at the chill...except Trance of course...unless is some Ultrapop track, or Horns&hoofs...or Boshke beats...OK I better shut up now

interesting topic.

freestyle or chill, trance or progressive, deep ambient or electro...so many styles and so little time.

perhaps they should call the second stage the "freestyle stage." then there will be no problems or misunderstandings.

music is music, and as long as the "people" dig it and get their money's and mind's worth, everybody's happy, right?

still, if the second stage is called "the chill-out village," or the "ambient zone," then perhaps it might be prudent to stick to the killer chiller formula, where the real "natural born chillers" get to show their stuff.

regarding maux's no label, no country post, i just wanted to say that most people would be thrilled to have not one, but two, well respected labels behind their name. if i had two labels supporting me, i would be totally stoked.

After Existence experience, I really see that to call "chill out" stage was wrong, and I think that next year we should call this stage something like alternative stage, or whatever...but apart from this, I think that maybe it would be handy to define the style of the Dj on the line up. I mean, as we put DJ Name and Label, country...we could put the style of the dj.

For example:

Dj Josko (Indica music, Italy, ketaminimal style)

Dj Mauxuam (No label, No country, No defined style)

Like that we could give more information to the people

"This year, because of all the confusion that having a mixed chill/alternative floor brought in 2005, the Universo Paralello crew built a killer Alternative Floor. The Alternative Floor, played from Full on (whenever progressive or electro was beem played at the main stage) to Minimal (a lot!) to progressive and even chill out (mostly live acts with live instruments) & folkloric music. It didn`t count on pillows, but it had enough shade so that people could sit there in the sand... Hard to explain, but it was alternative/freestyle in every sense.

On the other hand, Universo Paralello`s Chill Out went back to its roots, playing strictly downtempo/dub/ambient. It was built by the beach (a couple yards from the waves), and was probably one of the most beautiful and organic chill outs i have ever seen, with a 24-7 warm breeze, proper accommodations and amazing music. It was packed day & night and people we`re enjoying, relaxing, chatting, smoking and smiling...
Essential things in a long duration festival, things that couldn`t be done at the Alternative Floor, with all the meth-mdma freaks bangin to minimal & electrobreaks..."

i totally agree that trance music nowadays is boring, but hey, who`s guilty?
i believe, the lack of proper psychedelia, wich leads to trance.

So, do we have to change the only space where psychedelia lives on?
Is it a "crap system" where you live?
so maybe you are guilty!

chill can be "chilly", people love it, people dance to it. it doesn`t need to be fast, necessarely...

ps: mauxuam, you are nice, just heard you future days mix and it is quality dubby chill
upload a dj set with Loopus in Fabula and breakbeat wich is equally psychedelic and suitable for mind trips and relaxation. then i`ll respect every word you said. (unfortunately, i was unable to be @ existence, but now i`m curious.)

should we start a new topic from here ?
it's more important to have a chillout space or a freestyle dancefloor...or have both in the same area ?

I am with you Justin and Optical illusionS...a new era for conscious groovers.
many things happened that it was a very long time they were not happening in parties anymore...
wow....Zeon amazing set really started off the all festival in the chillout...ppl smiling a lot.
a chillspace that was supposed to be off for 4 hours the 31 night and instead rebels to his sleeping destiny (this is the obsolete idea) and go off like a renegade party with djs running to the hotels to play a backtoback set decided just before midnight...you know what I mean I guess.

I also have big respect for the Synergy/IDSpiral way of doing things...their spaces are amazing...the chai shop is fantastic....but I personally think that they have an obsolete idea about the music and a bit of a oneway attitude...if I was on a D&B or breakbeat forum I would say chillfascists but here we all are more mellow ;-) ... again big respect for their job...and their open mind.

actually big thanks and love to the lovely ppl of the chaishop at the Existence...they really did a great job and saved us from famine...following with much attention all the events in the tend....and this is BIG part of the all story.

to alaska:
I have a big respect for Interchill and Indica, this is why I like to ask them before I use their name to promote me...
as I said I have only been a guest on their compilations, an honour for me, no albums are planned with them.
I don't like when we abuse of label names, but I agree that is a good reference...and after Andrew and Josko sounded happy with it. ;-) all sweet .
no country, well... after 7 years travelling they cancel me from the italian big brother computer, for more than 2 month I was officially not existing anymore, I got back my legal identity only recently...

Universo Paralello in Brazil, Existence in Spain; sounds like outdoor new years festivals are alive and well. Nice that there were multiple stages.

During the new year, I DJ'd a 4 hour chill set on the main stage at Greenspirit in Southern Thailand. (I play under the Interchill Records' umbrella) While it would have been nice to have an independent chill site with a seperate sound system, I think that the single stage chill approach worked nicely, especially since it was during the afternoon. This method seems to happen often in Japan too, where I have DJ'd chill on the main stage for Vision Quest, Fineplay and Sirius Records. I think it is also a good way to introduce chill/ambient to the people who would otherwise not normally make it out to the second stage.

Nevertheless, a proper chill space is always well appreciated, and in Japan, Mother Productions definitly make the best outdoor and indoor "chill-out villages." Solstice and Blissdom do a good job too. I wish I could have seen the second stages at Existence and Universo Paralello. Sounds like they were great.

Also I downloaded Mauxuam's recent mix. Well done! Its very nice and has lots of surprises, and i recommend that everyone download it. Its in my ipod and I nearly slammed into the back of a bus while listening to it in my car!

I dont think is a good idea to play hard music into chill stages, antiscarp is pretty "punk" style, but i reckon is pretty much coooool for a chill dj to discovery the dancefloor "ego" ,,, hehehehehe

When i play around midnight, is ok for play something more funky,
but
at the sunrise, beatless ambient or reggae are better,
what do you think ?

In UK they do separate stages for "alternative" music, that realy cool.

Peace

I was wondering how long will it take you to post Moreno ...about the ''Punk'' thing, you wouldn't believe how many people called me the Chill-out Punk
And true...In the UK the alternative stage is a reality, but together with a chill space...which I don't think is a good idea.
Why???
Because the energy of the people is divided by 3 then...way too much if you ask me.
