yes...tnx to Justin & Marta !
the so called chill out tend was the only interesting and "interactive" warm area of the festival...
chillout area is an obsolete concept...what was happening in the existence chill space was far beyond normal boring chill (IDspiral style)...it wasn't just a place where come down and sleep...
we could dance there to any sort of beats...from mintek to progtrance and gypsy glitch breakz...actually I can say that it was where the party was really happening...and I am not saying that just because I was playing there often.
I spent 3min and 30secs in the trance floor...that looked more like a cold & muddy beer tend fest than a dancefloor....just miserable.

but...I would say...the all thing it wasn't worthed 100 euros for sure...and 2 euros for 250cc of water (that cost them no more than 10 cents) is a rip off...an offence...expecially because they finished the water supplies 24 h before the end of the festival...no comment.

i agree that the chillout area is kind of obsolete... it is a long time since "flying high" when morris suggested we lie down and be counted...

for me the right pace is to be able to enjoy the groove, skin up, have a conversation and not spill my beer... - and above all, to hear new music...

the living room at shambhala here in BC/canada fits the bill beautifully

Still...the slowmotion dancing of the IDspiral crew is rather fascinating.

I wouldn't like the chill area to become another dancefloor. For me this means in a way loosing the freedom that is such an essential part of it.

This doesn't mean that I don't like people dancing in the chill area- those who've heard my sets know that they get very danceable at times- last Doof Festival I even got to some 145bpm with some Juno. However, I would still like the ability to be able to play beatless ambient or any other weird stuff without people craving for beats or specific bpms or structures. And it is a great joy to see people (women, who are more open minded, usually) dancing even to this stuff.

It is easier to make the chill dance for a DJ. That is because you get instant feedback, while when you dance the brain more than the body, the feedback from your crowd is not so evident. When I first started DJing at chill areas or opening parties before the dancing started, it was a bit hard on me- people didn't always dance, not always I had my name mentioned, etc. However, when two years after a set I played in a festival someone comes to me and says: "wow man, that set you played there- we were chilling in our tents, and I'll never forget that journey"- it felt so great. So today I'm content just playing, even if it takes time for the energy to come back to me. I also enjoy a lot people faces and subtle moves when chilling around. I don't have to have a dancefloor rocking.

What I'm saying is basically is that I don't want any concept to become obsolete. I just rather not have any concept beyond a chill space. And if it erupts in dancing for some minimal stuff for a few hours, or grooves warmly, or sway dubbingly or just floats ambiently or any other conceivable thing it's just great.           ---------------------------------------------

Thanks to all of the artists! you made the chillout something to do not be called chillout, what for me it's nice

Maybe next year, we'll need 3 stages: Main floor, Chillout Relax Stage and Party Funny Stage

I couldn't hear all the sets, but I can say BRAVO to all of you!

Take care and see you soooon !
Marta.

I agree with shahar that the chill zone should not be set up as an alternate dancefloor... and certainly not a place to bust out psy trance at the end of your set...

still... the more freedom we all have to do as we please the better...
