it's different styles, man. but the dark trance came from dark ambient/death industrial/noise, black/death metal or even EBM. all kinds of "dark culture". i'm pretty sure that it can be REAL evil and some projects really DO those dark atmospheres using their influences, just look to their past.

I think dark music as a style is one thing, but an evil dj with real bad intentions is a totally different thing. I have never seen such a dj, but I guess there might be some messed up guy out there who intentionally wants to bad trip and scare people in a truly malicious way as a sort of control thing or twisted messed up thing. I mean its a big world, and its possible that there are djs like this.
However if you are sober, and are not suffering from some skizophrenia from to many hallucinogenics in the past or something like that, then an evil dj is somethinig you should be able to deal with without a problem. Like come on there all types of assholes in the world, in a big city or anywhere. You just get out of their way or if you must tell them to fuck off, it hapens all the time.
The difference in trance parties is that a lot of people are tripping out high on something. So you are more vulnerable and dealing with bad vibes not only is more difficult but in some situations can throw you off into a bad trip and cause confusions.
That's why I was saying that even if the DJ is not really evil and is just playing dark music well if you are really very high this too can cause a bad trip. Because in some hallucinogenic states the lines between fantasy and reality can become blurry, so its a bad idea to push dark ideas and violent challenging concepts at that moment.
I mean dark music when you are sober, is no big deal. Some people get into this style and just want more and more and feel like rebels or something like that. But pop some acid, a few shrooms and a hit of DMT and the music could take another persepective that has the potential to scare the shit out of some people. If you don't think so then double, or tripple the dose and you will at least see that yeah, it can get pretty weird. And you can't expect people in psy trance parties not to be tripping, its an energy experiment maaaan.

I guess then it depends in which dimension you are listening to the music. And lets not kid ourselves, psy trance and mind expanding drugs are very much connected.
Anyways, most likely the Dj is not evil but you are seeing him like that. When you are tripping out you will very easily project yourself unto the outside world. And you will see everybody is an alien, or evil, or good, or whatever is going through your mind. Sometimes this will happen even if the DJ is all good playing only happy songs. I mean if the mind wants to see 5 legs in a cat it will find them.

well, it's almost stupid you write that. i'm not a headbanger, but i respect it. it's just their music culture. some people in psytrance scene dresses up like hippies (urgh!), but they aren't hippies, not a bit.
and all that you've said is about drugs. so through drugs anything can be weird, scary, happy, awesome, fantastic, psychedelic, blá, blá, blá.
about the evil djs, well, if you're in a dark party, or even listening a dark dj, i'm sure you're there, on the dancefloor, because you like it. if you don't, just don't go.

Yeah well psy trance parties are full of people tripping out. And well my point goes along the lines of "set and setting" which can definitely affect your trip. btw, I meant no disrespect to headbangers.
And to Demerzriel, ok what I meant was metal music in general which tends to be dark. Like a Metallica CD cover that has a hammer full of blood and reads: "Kill em all" However since most people that listen to this music are not tripping out like the psy trance scene well all this dark stuff never really has the potential of getting that scary or anything like that. And no I am not an expert on dark metal music, its just my impression.
