I try but i canīt really see any problem with listening to just ordinary trance. i didnīt sign any contract when i started listening to psytrance that i under no circumstances were allowed to listen to something else that "psy". As some of you wrote i think that psytrance have much in common with other more "commercial" styles. electronic music, whatever style it might be, have much feel to it. And i think thatīs what counts when you listen to music.

cheers.

Well guys i really don't know what the problem is, i looooove psytrance, but i started listening regular Trance (Sasha, Tiesto, Oakenfold, Digweed etc.)and IMO they have really good stuff.

I think that's the beauty of having so many diferent kinds of styles, there's always something for someone.

I dont see any problem in listen to this common trance also! I just said that Im not looking for this music anymore...But I love music at all and Im not shamed about enjoy even reggae, rock or pops!

I think in psytrance style the evolution never stops, and its developing really faster than other styles...all because we have no rules inside this music, always looking for new ways to go "above & beyond"!
and thats why I let behind the common trance.

People, check out the Eye-Trance series, which consists of three cd's and contains 2 DJ mixes and 1 full length cd with the best songs from the two mixes. The mixes are done by DJ Daniel Bruns and DJ Taucher, who both hail from Germany and are excellent if you like progressive and underground trance. I do, and this series has become a personal favourite of mine, always delivering quality in full length tracks and mixes.

You should also check productions/mixes from James Holden, Markus Schulz, Sander Kleinenberg, Seb Fontaine. These are all masters in mixing and the progressive/underground form of trance (and deep house in Sander Kleinenberg's case, who mixes the two)

Sander Kleinenberg compiles Nu-Breed series, James Holden did the latest Balance (005), Seb Fontaine has his Prototype series, and Markus Schulz finally has his Coldharbour Sessions, which are completely excellent by the way.

Really, check these people and Eye-Trance out. You won't be dissapointed if you like progressive and underground trance!!

I spent plenty of time over on that side, years ago, when the melodies were good and the vocals infrequent. I sort of lost touch with the whole thing mainly due to the commercial nature of 'regular' (or whatever) trance. It was hard to find genuine music that wasn't forced over-the-top emotional drivel. People on that side seem so tied to the idols & the superstars. I've been on tranceaddict.com a few times to promote the psytrance sound because I always falsely figure that if they like that kind of trance, they'll love the melodic psytrance with its higher production values and deeper feelings... but while many people will admit to liking it, they seldom treat it as they do the regular stuff - so starstruck and such. I had to accept after a while that I just don't get it, and never will.

Ah well... since someone made me remember Carte Blanche, here's a few old trance tracks I suggest you try out, or just remember if you've heard of them

The Egg - Getting Away With It (Rollo-in-the-Red RMX - speaking of Faithless! heh)
Rodd-Y-Ler - Lifesigns
Nuw Idol - Not Afraid
Olmec Heads - Lift Off
Weirdo - Photic Zone
Overcharge & G.Meter - Whiplash
Nostrum - Brilliant
DJ Wag - Man on the Moon
Cascade - Transcend (Ferry Corsten Mix)
X-Cabs - Neuro (Additive Mix, or Original if you like - both good)

And as a final sort of weird question, I gotta ask if anyone can clear up the relation between Energy52's Cafe Del Mar (an all-time classic of epic trance) and some early work from SFX (I think the song is Reaching Out) - what's the story here, or was it all by chance that they sound so alike?

That's just a coincidence... Which is so most of the time when tunes really sound alike... Back in the day when a friend of mine used to produce hardcore tracks, I had an idea for a song called Achtung. We made the track, never released it, but some weeks later I heard the song Achtung on a hardcore compilation my friend borrowed from someone. It was really freaky, but there was no way they could have gotten it from us, since we never did release the song. I've left hardcore way behind me by the way... hehehe (Before you people get wrong ideas)

Hi guys, here in Japan, this kind of trance - which Id Magazine once called "psy's cousin" - is known as Cyber Trance, and it attracts a lot of people to its parties. It is easy to see how popular it is when you go to any Tower Records shop: it rules in the trance section. I've been to some parties and I expected something so sweet that I thought about bees in the dance floor. But actually after getting into the club, the atmosphere was quite surprising. I am not telling it was marvellous, but I indeed enjoyed the whole night. There's a point here I want to tell you: many of my friends just doesn't go to psy trance events any more and now are going to cyber or techno parties. I don't want to discuss it, because it would seem that I am complaining about the current state of the psy scene. I still go to good events, especially the small ones. But it's nice to see that there are other trance-related scene going on. Cyber is very melodic and has that uplifting point that psy once had - that's why my friends are enjoying it, I think.

Anyway, we must respect other scenes, after all it's all the same in the end.

Peace and Love.
