I've always tried not to limit myself only to psytrance (well, in my case more progressive than psy) and listen to other styles and be more or less updated about artists, labels, releases, etc. It has been that way for quite some time with progressive house. But lately I have found myself listening to a lot of elektro. Stuff like John Starlight, Vitalic, T Raumschmiere, Richard Bartz, Alter Ego... Am I alone in here or more of you share my taste? I know that at least Wizzy Noise and Tsuyoshi do . You can definetely find elektro influenced leads/melodies in Wizzy Noise's last album "Stereo Electric". As for Tsuyoshi I think elektro has been one of his main fields for quite some time now. Just listen to Joujouka's last album "Are you Elovetric?". And now he also spins elektro under the alias Numanoid!!

Hmmm I see you are using Elektro as a generic term, and this is always confusing me..

The fact is that Elektro in my mind is a very specific style.. What you're mentionning is basically Techno (nice one, but Techno).. Elektro has a rhythmic structure leaded by the snare, and not the kick. So it can sounds like Hip Hop or breakbeat..

And there are two "schools" :

- The Elektro BoOgie one, linked to the HipHop Scene

- The "german" Elektro, linked to the Techno Scene, with artists and performers like Anthony Rother, Andreas Kauffelt, Dr. Scissors, and others..

Techno deejays, and big ones often put a few "elektro" song in their sets.. usually to bring a break and then launch fatter sounds.

Besides some big techno producers have created a few Elektro songs... Like Ben Sims in example or Steve Stoll.

I'm sure some of those songs would also perfectly fit in a prog, tech/trance and why not full on set. But as far as I remember I've never heard something like this in the psyscene.. excepts maybe Dino Psaras in the Serial Killaz comp (Atomic records), when he puts an Eat Static "elektro"-like/influenced song (Second Sight).

Second Sight by Eat Static is one of the best psytrance tracks ever, but I like the cheesy-80s-influenced electro a bit more than the techno side of things... Viva Little Computer People!           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

There is so much amazing electronic music around. From Neptunes which make amazing Hip Hop/R'n'B productions to Autechre and Squarepusher with totally random nonsense that make Russian Full-on to sound melodical. And not to mention the amazing pieces that were written in the first half of 90's by bands like Fluke, Underworld, Way Out West, BT Rollo and Chem. Bros and Prodigy. So much Good music around. Come on ppl, open up your eyes.

KakoOlalaJwal I really liked your description of electro, seems like ur into it.. Respect!

electro was there from the begining and now it is still one of the most underground style of
electronic music
in psy scene today the only producers that make electro that is highly appriciated in the electro world is Der Interpret (MidiMiliz, The Delta, X-Dream) there should be an album
comming up soon hopefully this summer.. that will take electro scene by storm! Metalogic also coocked some sick electro trax that will soon be released on his upcomming album..

here are some of my favorite electro producers:

Der Interpret
Silicon Scally (Carl A. Finlow)
Subtonal
Johannes Heil
The Advent
Andrea Parker
The Hacker
Anthony Rother (Little Computer People)
Two Lone Swordsmen
GeZer

Thanks for the wink RetroActive, really nice. Now am I into it ? Well it's thanks to these deejays I'm mentionning in the previous post that I first discovered Elektro.. It came to a point (in the beginning) where I was expecting THE elektro track in their techno set (As far as I remember Johannes Heil, Thomas Krome, The Advent, Neil Landstrümm, Richard Bartz, Electric Indigo, Luke Slater -and so many others- played some great tracks in their sets when I saw 'em).. And before knowing that this specific beat was called Elektro, I was really fond of its vibration. It's so made-to-dance, extremely "boOgie in my Bones"..

Then I discovered the frankfurter (germany) label Elektrolüx and bought Elektro Codes volume 02, double-CD compilation featuring Anthony Rother, Subtonal (that you mentionned RetroActive, and what a track there), Dr Scissors and others.. One "nervous" CD, and the second one more chilled (Today I'm still playing some of these tracks..)

Really great one.

Later I've been lucky ennuf to see Anthony Rother Live... (was just before Adam Beyer's set that night) in a german festival (the Big Warp 99).. And it was so out-stand-ing, with electronic battery and other silly machines.. The last track he played, very slow but so phat is still in my mind.

Then later as i was going out more in psytrance parties than techno ones.. and so, well i've heard far less Elektro tracks on a loud sound system..hehe

It's a pity.. I'm sure Psytrance can fit with Elektro easily, you talk about der InterPret, it's a really good example. You made my day with the album-on-its-way words.

For sure I will check your advice about der Interpret and Metalogic, and the names I don't know in your selection.

Cheers !
