i have been waiting for this new Haltya album ever since Exogenic sent around that sampler cd(my record store friend got one).
its been worth the wait as its just about the funkiest psytrance i have ever heard.

Pelinpala (Tommi Sirkiä) and Outolintu (Jürgen Sachau) collaborate again at Haltya studios to give us Electric Help Elves.

super funky groovy electronic music in a variety of styles:
jazz, funk, breaks, house, drum n bass, psytrance- all of it always super psychedlic.

1. Robots are good
2. New age beachbums
3. Hero
4. Night of the carrots
5. Living day lights
6. Damn straight (edit)
7. Allways ultra
8. Walk in the woods
9. Kaikados (rmx)
10. Mean to me

1. fresh, uplifting funk. great way to start the album
2. wonderful melody for this happy morning groover. great layered, slow buildup. this one just puts a smile on my face that i cant hide.
3. released as a 12 inch...funkiest track on the album; this is like goin back to the 70's-serious disco trance here. there is like a live funk horn section and bass guitar and funky wa-wa guitar. it all gets groovin at the end too. hot stuff!!!
4. breaksy-clicky trance with an organ too and of course more funk.
5. old school finnish psystyle here. nice melody for last go round.
6. very psychedelic but still pretty mellow trance track.
7. this was on the sampler and had me so excited waiting for this album. after a super trippy intro, bumping funk space trance gets the dancefloor groovin with trippy old school synths. ends up in happy goa psychedelica.
8. triphoppy psy n bass. spacey groover.
9. a Haltya remix of a track by hidria spacefolk (?). more of the funky wa wa guitars.
10. mellow downtempo atmospheric breaks track. kinda like the highpersonic whomen track on twisted's backroom beats 2, but with more pep.

then there are a bunch of small 13 second tracks of silence then a long track(8 minutes) of silence. then a short hidden track at the end of all that silence. always funny to find that stuff after you thought it was all over.

all in all some great new funky trance for those who like to disco. i love the finnish sound and sense of humor.
my favs: 1, 3, 7 -the funkiest ones of course - they are already in my tops and i just got this cd 2 days ago.

thanks again Exogenic and Haltya

i'll leave you with Haltya's words from inside the cover:
"Oh, and don't forget to remember...madness keeps us sane. Have a nice day!"
gotta have the wiggy AND the wonky

I am awaiting my copy to arrive from Saikosounds! Haltya is sooooo good! Their previous album "Forest Flavour" is a masterpiece. I hope they won't make me disappointed with this new release, but I don't think so ;-)

hello :)

thanks for the very very positive feedback
on "electric help elves"...
we're trying to move on that funky road
without losing the psychedelia. we also try to bring funness and positive vibes to the listener.
like a westbound funk track goes:
"which way should i disco" :D

cheers, jyrgen (outolintu / haltya and also
frank further / highpersonic whomen)

wowow!
finally the second installment of the haltya saga!

well this is a VERY interesting release. first few listens were a little dissapointing, -not the instantaneous 'oh-my-god!' response that the first produced. however after a while this has really grown on me, and im still discovering the hidden wonder of this album....

after the 12" release, this obviously wasnt going 2 be the tweakfest that was 'forest flavour'. in some ways thats dissapointing, (cuz that album was mind-blowing and waaaaaay ahead of its time) but on the other hand, its good to see that they have moved and evolved their sound.

gotta say that i luuuuuurve this funky retro 70's style, pure sunday arvo bliss. and the addition of the real 'live' instrumentation only heightens the experience. the more linear tracks (5 & 6) left a little to be desired, and probably wouldve been much better suited to the next Hypersonic Whomen album..... not that they are bad tracks, i just find it hard to see how they fit in context with the rest of the album.

favourites so far: Hero (great progression, and funky as fuck!), Kaikados (psychedelic space rock, kinda reminds me of a more 'dancefloor friendly' version of Shaolin Wooden Men) and Mean to Me (plz write a whole album of this kinda stuff Tommy!!!)

no doubt ill be caining this album on the dancefloors in australia during the coming months

Happy Happy Joy Joy thanks to Haltya and Exogenic Records for Super Funky Funtimes Psy!!!

(if u enjoyed this Ulf, definately check out the Eraser vs. Yojalker album also released on Exogenic Records!)

what a wicked release. its so groovy, funny and well produced, I can't stop smiling.

Jyrgen & Tommi couldn't have made a better continuation to their first album "Forest Flavor", this one is definately Haltya, only more mature, with new ideas and themes that just makes you go 'ooomm'.
cover art is again, Haltya. on one hand fresh and innovative, and on the other holds a lot of the traditional forest feeling you get when doing Sauna and sitting outside when the evening is comming, sitting very quietly and sometimes hearing the little faeries (Haltya in finnish) in the nearby woods.

simply wicked CD, so fresh, happy and innovative.
luv,

www.psymag.com review:

EXOGENIC RECORDS - HALTYA - ELECTRIC HELP ELVES CD

Track list:
1 ROBOTS ARE GOOD
2 NEW AGE BEACHBUM
3 HERO
4 NIGHT OF THE CARROTS
5 LIVING DAY LIGHTS
6 DAMN STRAIGHT
7 ALLWAYS ULTRA
8 WALK IN THE WOODS
9 KAIKADOS
10 MEAN TO ME

Released: April 2004

HALTYA - WOW
From the beginning right till the crazy end, you swept unconsciously into a magical journey, enhanced by an unprecedented selection of mixed musical styles, a hybrid of LSD & SHROOMS, separate yet together, just as the cover (Front & back) distinctly reflects, each on a side complimenting each other as one.
This is the first time I heard a HALTYA original, ashamed to say, and have been swept of my feet since...
From the cover and into the interior this CD symbolizes, intellect, musical richness, funk, groove, humor and absolute joy.
The selection is fussed with spirit, character and musical triumph, musically wide spread yet so together.
As the Label (Exogenic) "Haltya has managed to create a groovy sound that we call Funky Forest Trance. "
Grab on to this one while it lasts, not for long if you advise in me...

Official release information:
Pelinpala (Tommi Sirki?) and Outolintu (J?rgen Sachau), working from the Haltya studios, first released on the Fusion vs. Confusion compilation in 1999. The Project/Haltya 12”, released in 2000, received good feedback and club plays from, among others, Annie Nightingale at BBC Radio One.Electric Help Elves is the second album release for this dynamic duo (debut: Forest Flavour, ExoCD 09). Those who have heard Haltya’s latest 12” Hero (Exo 1211), knows what to expect.

By using instruments that are uncoventional for psy-trance guitars and horns Haltya has managed to create a groovy sound that we call Funky Forest Trance. The sound is something that is impossible to describe with only a couple words, but with the help of the cover graphics you get a fuller picture of the contents. The prima horns, guitar and drums on single track Hero results in an acid jazz sound or probably the funkiest trance ever made, depending on how you look at it.

Excellent release. One of the best things I've heard lately. So funky, so original.

When, oh when will somebody bring them to Israel?
