Can somebody explain me why there seem to be 20 tracks in the album, when actually there's only 10.
Yes I know there's a hidden track, but still, why show as if there are 20 tracks?           Majority is never right!

Because the hidden track wouldn't be very hidden if there weren't.

It's a bit problematic though. I always forget to press stop at the end of the last (official) track and everytime I almost have a heart attack when the hidden track kicks in.

Actually exaxtly because it shows 20 tracks when only 10 of them are real tracks, it already reveals you there's a hidden track.

In most c.ds the hidden track is after a few minutes of silence after the last track - meaning in the same last track itself.

And yes...hehe... I almost jumped off my chair when I heard the hidden track.           Majority is never right!

well... the actual idea was to get the "bonus
track" in front of the 1st track of the album. i know this is possible cause i own a cd with a bonus track implanted this way (you have to rewind from the start) but the mastering program at the mastering studio didn't allow it. so we decided still to keep the intro (because that's what the track really is) and put it somewhere in the end. it's not in the same index with the last track for the sake of convenience. now the listener can program the cd player to play
only the tracks he/she wants.
... and that was the story of the bonus track and we all lived happily ever after

Haha... i know what you mean... scared the shit out of me!

Good album... keeping the suomisaundi tradition of not being afraid to experiment...           How am I supposed to hallucinate with all these swirling colors distracting me!

The other day I showed this album to a friend that never forgave my choice of the psytrance path.

For years I've been trying to show him well made psy, but I could never convince him.

Till that nice afternoon, at a barbecue in which he asked what was playing.

Course I won't fantasize he will get into psytrance, cos this album is way beyond the average productions.

There already, tho, 2 albums I know this friend of mine listens: EHE and Advanced Retromodel

I can't stop listening to Haltya....

Tommi and Jurgen, you keep my ass shaking in the house, when I'm driving, and practically everywhere!!!

I wish more of the trance scene would focus around this kind of music, instead of the repititive bom-bom soundz we got used to hearing.....It's hard to separate the bad from the good, but this one is definitely one of the BEST, and a great followup to "Forest Flavour"....

Keep up the good work and funk it up some more...

Here is my review from OzTrance:

Got it!!! Cover art is totally cute. I can't contain myself - I rip off the plastic. Digi-pack this time, so the CD won't fall out when least expected. Hit eject. Tarinat out, Electric Help Elves in

1. "Robots Are Good"
Oh my god, this is bizarre. Sounds almost like 80s synth pop. Then a funky electro bassline. Tommi Sirkia trademark synth washes over the top. Stabs begin about a minute & a half through. Pretty damn funky I must say, but to be honest, something feels lacking in the high end. Percussion is REALLY tight though. Oh, OK, I should be more patient.. about 3 & a half minutes it starts to get more complex. Wow, this is totally cool - I'm riding a wave over really subtle melody carried by some of the funkiest percussion ever produced from within the "psy scene"

2. "New Age Beachbums"
No waiting around in this one. There is still this electro feel to the bass, which is totally funky.. I can't help but wonder how it would sound over a big system. It has a sorta midrange riff that seems to be the bassline, but there is also a much subbier frequency that is more spacious with it's notes. 2 minutes in & there's a nice breakdown - really cool drums (again). Things get really cute when we get back underway. Can't help but smile... this is kinda like psy-disco. Very, very cute. Really groovy synth work around the 5 minute mark

3. "Hero"
Now we have the single. Cue funk guitar links. Cue funky ass bassline. Cue totally retro feel complete with flares & aviator sunnies. Now I'm cruisin the boulevard on rollerskates. For those of you who never heard this one from maxi, it's pure funk, Funland style. Horn section at a minute & a half is like something outta some hilarious late 70s flick.. Shaft or something like that. Great change at the 2 and a half minute mark. This is proper music. No bang bang doof doof ad-nauseum. Totally well "composed". Totally funky. Ya dig?

4. "Night of the Carrots"
Oh, so we're gonna go a bit deeper it seems. Funk still totally present in the bassline, but it's stabler, more "trancey". Tight percussion from the 1 minute mark. Nice shuffle in the hats. Ooo, more horns, with this groovy little old-skool, analogue sounding synthline. Hmmm, not as good as the first few tracks.. a bit empty. They've improved on their percussion A LOT since the last album. It seems to dominate this track, with what sounds like it could be live-recorded hand percussion pretty much consuming the track from 3 to 4 minutes

5. "Living Day Lights"
Squelchy intro, more funky percussion. This one sounds like it could be a little harder, with a pretty dirty synth from about 30 seconds. But no, at the 1 minute mark we're back into the funk, with another electro-style bassline. Goin pretty heavy on the stabs this time. Breakdown halfway through has some nice water-drop style atmospherics that reek of Pelinpala. Seems pretty solid when it gets going again. Then it drops out into this REALLY trancey melodic section. Wow! This is pretty much straight, fluffy trance actually, but with drums funkier than most trance artists can manage

6. "Damn Straight (edit)"
Hahaha, cool guitars in the intro. Another funky bassline. Nice synth washes. Totally out there psyfreakazoids may not like this - it's actually rather 'nice'. Cool guitar / synth call / response thing goin on in. Cool breakdown around the 3 and a half minute mark. This is actually an interesting crossover between Finland style funky weirdness & the Highpersonic Whomen style proggy-ness (I hear Reece groan). Building really nicely. Totally rocking by 6 minutes. I still feel it's missing something, but I'm not sure what

7. "Allways Ultra"
This is the B-side from the Hero 12". More totally funky morning gear right here. Cool synthwork.. kinda retro feeling, but with these really nice zappy bits that sound kinda like a pitched up, reversed kick (or something) - sounds like something goin 'pop' if y'know what I mean. Cute track, not as good as "Hero" but still really groovy. Nice little guitar licks. This is just really cute. Not particularly rockin, but really nice. Cool little keyboard solo in the last half of the track. Actually, not really a solo, but just really tinkly melodies

8. "Walk in the Woods"
This is really tasty, jazzy d&b - Jurgen Sachau rhythm section in full effect. Bird noises in the mix after a minute & a half. Things seem to be building to something by 2 minutes, I'm still wondering what it's building to by 2 and a half. OK, here we go - solidness soon after. Really nice walking bassline. Fast percussion. Either really, fast or really slow.. I'm still tryna figure out which. Hehehe, whispering voices & key changes in the bassline by 4 mins. Oh man, I'm just gonna shut up about this one now... it's just really jazzy & nice. Spacious, but nice

9. "Kaikados (Haltya Kai Katos Remix)"
Back into the solid, straight-beat, funk grooves. Cute, squelchy, slightly cheesey melodic stabs. Wicked change at the 2 minute mark. I'm amazed. Great guitar licks now. Bassline's stepped up a bit too. Funny little claps, Jamiroquai style. Another change at 2:45. Now the guitars are reflective - I'm sensing a Fila Brazillia influence, I swear. More Fila than Jamiroquai anyway (Fila love their claps). Guitars build around 4 minutes & get quite rockin. Then it drops back. Pretty crazy top end in this one by the end, very Pelinpala

10. "Mean To Me"
Ah cool, it seems we have a downbeat jazzy number to round things off. Gotta say I'm lovin this (not Justin Timberlake style mind you). Gotta love token chill tracks that aren't token. Nice synth washes that are more reminiscent of the dub-flavoured downbeat that the trance scene seems to dig on so much, but over the top of jazz basslines & piano. Ooo, surprise at 2 minutes - enter the drum & bass riddims. This is very listener friendly, but there's some totally amazing synthesis goin on over the top. Cool walking bassline at 4 minutes.. this is very freeform & cool I must say

Overall, this is not the bleepfest that was the 1st Haltya release. Is is toned down but funked up. Less of the full on synthwork that the freaks prob'ly loved about the 1st one, but way, Way, WAY more funk. All up I gotta say it's morning dancefloor goodness, with a smattering of jazzy loungeroom beats. Not sure whether to give it 8.5 or 9 outta 10 - the funny lyrix in the secret track made me opt for the latter. Nowhere near as hard as, say, "Tarinat", but much funkier & with better melodies. If u like your psy with a phat slab of funk & a healthy dose of jazz, BUY THIS ALBUM!!           new Hadal Drop album on the way

P.S. buy this album for your non-psy friends!

Haltya is composed of Pelinpala (Tommi Sirkļa) & Outolintu (Jürgen Sachau) & delivers us Funky Fresh Power at its best, the 2 last tracks are more drummy bassy oriented but still nice, The kai kantes remix is by far the one i dig the less of the album.

highlights :5,6,10
the rest as other favorites

8 ,5/10
