That's total bullshit. If a person is dumb he doesn't get any smarter listening to music. If a person is smart he won't get any dumber listening to music. Music is music. It can be stimulating for your brain but you won't get smarter or dumber.

What the *uck r u talkin about man? "..Music is music? It can stimulate your brain..." your words and only re hiding the truth and the answer..
Dont try to imagine the iq number (which is a total bullshit) increasing. Listening to music (psy or not) puts your brain in states that can be from relaxation(or totally sleeping) to creation, depending on what you listen and what you re doing (and always considering your mood). Also, music can (on purpose or by "accident") contain frequencies that driving your brain in a 'x' state. One of those can be the beta state, in which the brain is more active and productive.
Anyway there re a lot of science(s) behind all that (includin psychology, psysics, neurobiology and the always present mathematics..) I Dunno, I though that everyone knew that music has such infuences...

PS. And cheers to Pythagoras from Denmark (and from Greece.. )

music is as complex as the mind of the listener allows it to be.

you really think it depends only on the listeners "open mind" about the quality and complexity of the music?
that means that every crap music would be good for an open minded.
well, i dont think so...           - last possible solution

yes... there are people who like britney Spears just as much as other people might like Mozart.
the feelings and satisfaction that they get out of listening to this can be equally intence it's just a matter of who they are and what they like but it has nothing to do with "music quality".

I think this is logical... to claim that some kinds of music is supperior to other is illogical since that is a matter of taste.

lets say we have a piece of music with 90 different instruments playing a song, some in 3/4, som in 4/6 and some laying the most complex chords. would this have to be a better experience for the listener than if a single guy had played the song on for instance a Violin? -I don't think so. I for one would probably like the solo performance better since I love such simplicity in music.

anyway... -How can you say that this is not a matter of who the listener is and his/her taste?

"every crap music would be good for an open minded" -Do you define crap music for us all?
yes If someone hits one note on the piano and calls it a track then most people would call it crap but that's hardly the case with psychedelic Trance...

bla bla bla... yadadada...

I'll shut up now..

Listening to complex patterns, detailed filterings, repetative rythms makes your (read my) brain work. That is a good thing...
Too much of one thing can be bad.
I didnt get wiser by listening psycedelic trance, but i gained an abillity to listen highly complex music.
What stimulates the brain, differs from each individual. Most humans would feel very uncomfortable if exposed to the Highcosmos album in full length (just to take an allready used example), even most trancers i guess.
My mother would hate it for shure...
So we are not all on the same path, my only conclusio is: Music is stimulating!
