I was listening to some new albums today by new artists and i was comparing their music to some of my favorite artists like Deedrah,The Antidote and the likes.

When i heard the albums and had to choose which tracks i liked and which i dont like so that i put them in my cd case i wondered whether i would like more these albums if they were created by one of my favorite artists.

In a few words what i want to say is the following.Does the name of an artist affects whether you like a tune or not?
Would you prefer the same tune if it was produced from Infected Mushroom lets say rather than Overlap or Fatali for example?

Personally i think that the name of the artist and his reputation affects me a lot whether i like a tune or not.

What about you mates?           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

I'm with you too Detox. i'm affected by the name... in a way its like a marketing thing... meaning: when u have a killer name, people who dont really know you and are debating whether to come or not might be swayed by this. something that jumps out at you, something that makes you think, something that suggests what music is played, something that gives you a preview...
i like hallucinogen, i think its a perfect example.
i dont think artists with regular (plain) names are lesser quality, but i prefer the "game" of the names... i think it adds another dimension!           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

I think a good track is a good track. And if I hear one on a comp from an artist I haven't heard before, I'll go to lengths to research that artist and find more music from them.

The fact that this artist is unknown just adds to the sense of mystery - I could be discovering the next Erez or Simon! Everybody starts in the same place, don't they?

my 2 cents

I don't care what the name is. As long as the music is good.

There is something to say about a real killer band/artist name though. It is more of an initial marketing thing though, doesn't affect my judgement of the music.

Let me make my self clear.

I dont mean if you like the name of the artist as a name.I mean if the backround of the name of the artist makes you like a track more or less.

I mean i love every Deedrah tune BUT if the same tracks were produced not by Deedrah by someone else (lets say Paranormal Attack for example who are new in the scene and have no big backround) i might did not like those tunes.

You get the point?           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

hi detox...
i think that you are right-it is like every other thing in life---like a good friend that you know so if he will make something your opinion will be more lets say "gentle" to him,,but we allways need to be effect by the quality of the music and not the name as even famous artist sometimes releases tracks that the quality of that is not in thier best and they even just "replay" on themself...
good music is good music:-]

It does affect my listening habits...
For example, if I listen to a track made by some artist that I like, i'm gonna sit and listen to the entire thing and try to find something good in it.
But if it's an artist that I'm not familiar with or don't like that much, Ii'll just skip through it and most likely forget about it. it has to be really good for me to like it the first time i listen to it.
