this is mainly a question for the people involved in the psy scene...Promoters,producers..label managers..

Im at the point in my life where i gotta choose what I wanna do with my future and my life.

I have a passion for psytrance so deep that Id like to be part of it my hole life...

I'd like to produce psytrance for a living but from what i hear from alot of people is there is no money in psytrance

so basicly...does anyone here actually make a living off psytrance ?

if so please give me some tips

Im sure i'd probbaly need to produce..and own a label too...and a promotion crew...right ?

I'd like to get each artists opinion on this

thx

hi welcome,

if you wish to make a living out music do not choose psy trance IMO, but if you love the music so much and you are ready to produce it anyway then you can focus on making good music for no money, i say why not
good luck

Imho opinion. Get a nice job that pays alright without wearing you out. That way you can make any music you want without worrying how many records you'll sell.
I used to think that work is holding me back from making more music. But I've come to a new way of thinking and it actually makes me feel better about it.
And the other thing is that although you love making tunes now, there might be a morning that you simply will not want to sit in the studio at all. If you have many deadlines to get some cash to gether to pay the rent, or stuff for your family and you force your self into it, it becomes a job like any other.           Me>You

What 14-year old e-tard said is true.
in genaral:
If u want to be an original artist with unique style - it's impossible to live from Trance.
If u want to make money and travel the world make Astrix like full on.
Sad but true.

I've been doing lots of thinking on this topic and trust me, the conclusion is very relative and it's always affected by your current mood.

When I'm thinking about what I am studying and what i like doing right now doesn't really allign with my goals for the future. I like to think that it doesn't have such a big effect. If you sort things out and keep a balance in what you are doing you can enjoy psy and whatever you want to do.

Darn, i really want to explain and talk about how i feel but there is just way too much philosofying(if that is a word at all )

I understand what you mean, and I feel the same way about this. I've been thinking of making music for a living too. At least, I'd like to. But I realize it's not up for grabs. You have to be talented, and not to mention, lucky. Especially in today's musical genres like psytrance, ambient etc. where there are so many artists already. The best advice given here is from headyatail2000 IMO. I'm doing that too. When the 'big break' comes one time and you'll get noticed and credited for your music, then you might be able to switch. I know I will.. But for now, plain studying and working it is, with the music as a pleasant hobby           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. I think if you start doing Music thinking before all about possible incomes.. You have already missed the target..

..which is (do I hope) fun, fun fun !           .

if you are supposed to do nothing but make music, you will know it, you will be able to do nothing else
the music will be sprouting from you, and you will have no time for anything else
until then, occupy your time with other things as well, be it work or something else.           Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

Neuromyth, you are a very talented young artist, and i really think your tracks have a future.. but from that in saying you want to make a living from psytrance.. eiiisssshhhh... good luck my friend.. i mean, just think about it..

lets say you sell each track for, well, humm, 300 CAN dollers.. so like, you end up releasing, say, 8 tracks per year (and that is ALOT of music), plus you strike a deal with a cool label, and they release an album with your newest tracks.. say they give you 200 per track, buying a total of 10 tracks...

now, your album will bring you 2000$ CAN
your single tracks will bring you 2400$ CAN

your grand total for releasing as much as wizzy noise does brings you to 4400$ CAN per year..

unless you eat kraft dinner, the odd's are against you..           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9

bring to the calculation alot of gigs and it might work... but its alot of work for something that is supposed to be fun
but on the other hand who said that fun is not hard work

i think if you broden your musical quest and make music for commercials, film and whatever you have a better chance to earn a living..

but in the meantime working to get money for gear is probably necessary if you dont have rich parents.
