for me not really, but there're names which i like and there're others which i like less or dislike at all

yet.. maybe the name got kind of influence on you when you dont know the band yet and consider weither to listen to it or not.. dunno
when you come to the music store and looking at the trance music stand.. by what criteria do you choose the discs which you wish to pre listen, to buy.. ?

i think so.....good music has to be presented good, so i think good artist- and trackname is necessary...i like giving my songs strange names like: anakoluth - hypochondrial hyperventilator...and i like strange names in other prod's too:)           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

For all I care, artists can call themselves "The Green Nuns of the Revolution" and if they'd make good music, I'd buy their album, even if it's named something like "Rock Bitch Mafia".           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Good music is good music. You can't judge the book by the cover...
Anyway, sometimes people associate the name to the kind of music, it's a mistake, for people change styles.

i see..
but nobody answerred another question:
by what criteria do you pick up discs in the music store, when you are looking for something new?
or you just buy what you have heard before at party, radio, mp3..etc?

of course names matter, especially if it is you taht chose the name- that tells me something about you.           ---------------------------------------------

I think the names of bands and tracks could (should?) be related to the kind of sound. And that could be an invitation for listening. On the other hand, there are bands wich I don't really like the names but love the sound like Psysex for example.

in my opinion.. if 2 artists write extremely good music and almost everybody likes it a lot, the one who has a nice/short/"cool"/relevant/weird/i don't know what name has much more chances in becoming let's say a "legend"..

for example, no matter how good hallucinogen's music is, if his artist name was "3 birds were sitting on a tree" he wouldn't become a legend..           in search for an answer...

it does make it more interesting .. to have a good name .. also sometimes it describes your style... which is goood for prmotion as people have an idea...
but also most times before buying a CD you find about the artist that helps you choose over the name..

kosmos - I think ur wrong here - but I won't argue too much.

Dunno how a name makes someone better or worse musically! liking a name is a taste - as liking music is a taste.

one can say this name sux - one can say something else - just listen to the music and then judge.

and names don't make legends - it's the music.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Good point, I agree. Short, easy name are easy to remember = more successfull.           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.
