This is truly suprising to see. I know this topic is quite old, but I only recently joined these forums and found this. After seeing Dr. Spook and chatting with him at some shows in the midwest I am COMPLETELY shocked to hear that this has happened. He is such a nice person. I know views change of people when they don't pay you, but I am truly shocked that this has occured to several people. |

I wanted to add this as a separate post so it doesn't get overlooked.
My friend who ran the midwest EarthDance actually owes Dr. Spook money still and Spook has not complained about it to him. He is going to get paid soon, I just wanted people to know that he has similar situations as you all. |

Business and personal relationships are 2 different things Ascension. If you were talking about the latter then Spook is a gem of an individual and a guru. I can list a few others who are as enchanting... however when it comes to the money (which is the #1 real material deal in this world) people tend to form their own opinions and think economic standards revolve around the individual.
You promise to pay an artist it doesn't matter how incapable you are, fucking take out a loan and pay them. Especially if you're living in the land of free credit.
That goes for everyone including your Earthdance promoters. If they can think about booking AP this year they can afford to pay their dues.
BTW... I played 2 sets at the same Earthdance for no fees & no gas compensation but that was my prerogative so if Spook was promised something and is not demanding it himself then its very apparent how much he values the art.

Just to add my bit... I think the obvious shit here is doing more releases without paying the first ones and that is what Spook didn't explain us yet, where come the money to press new cds and mastering if there are no money to pay artists.
It is ok to do only promotion to new artists if you say in advance that you will not pay anything. But.. I think the big big shit here is not to send even 1 copy of the cd to the artists within it. That's fucking insulting to artists to have to buy the cd with his track inside. That's not too costly to mail 1 cd to artist so there are no excuses.
Well I think that topics like this one will prevent people for opening labels with no money and artists to send tracks with no advanced payment.

I actually got paid by the doctor...not a big deal.
all you need to do is ask to be paid in CDs and DVDs cause he has millions of them that he hasn't sold yet...

And the story continues... This guy release tracks on compilations without even asking the artists...! He doesn't reply to artists and don't give a f..ck about the artists.
I would recommend all artist to NOT send this guy any more tracks.
I have heard about very many unserious people in the trance business, but this guy beats them all.

Except in this case the increase in website hits are from people who are more interested in what's up with this thread more than in buying your music necessarily (sadly). All in all given the context I think I'd rather have the no publicity, if it were up to me.

hhmmmm...very very interesting all those i just read...So it was real all those i heard about Mr.Spook but after i had sent him our promo album in mp3 format to have a listen...thank God all tracks have fades so its ok...WHAT A RUBBER...SHAME ON YOU MR.DOCTOR THIEF...

By the way....you should read the break down he sent us for the release of our cd to smile...i will post it to have a look how this people make money!!HE IS SIMILAR TO MANDALA RECORDS...SAME SHIT ALL AROUND FINALLY....
