seriously, sometimes I think that if we were to make music in a psychedelic state, the music would be less psychedelic. When your under the influence of a psychedelic, I feel supersensitive to anything. Tweaking a filter over the simples sound seems sooo far out and psychedelic, but when your back in the "normal" mindset it just sounds dry and boring, far from psychedelic.

Our everyday mindset is like a brick wall, you need something really powerful, for example what we consider psychedelic, to break the wall and get through to the core. On psychedelics, you need a breath of air....

Love!

^^ Wise words...

plus one..........
in my opinion if you are sober and really you enjoy a music, then with drugs it will be even better, otherwise if the music is awful i think the skdlks only will amplify this....sometimes its seems the contrary but its just an illusion......your own
when i was younger i started to go to parties and i could dance hours and hours without ever have taken something(only some years later)peaple asked me what i took and i replied, nothing.....people couldn´t believe...they were full on es and tired as dogs....
its important to make music out of your inner truth and knowledge and not to get easy and quick results falsely stimulated by the use of drugs during musical production...

its funny because ,i would say the majority of the releases today seem to be made under the influence of drugs.........but unfortunately are not made for people on drugs.........its just selfish egodickheadimverydarkandpsykillakillafartsongs

that only lead to saturation and not to substance

people on drugs need good music not music sell by kilo

Here's my idea on the subject....

I've tried to make music on a severely altered state, and it really didn't work out for me. Many things similar to what Fraggletrollet said has happened where I'll get stuck tweaking something mundane or make something that I think is "far out" but the next day sounds like utter poo poo.

However, I've said this before. My experiences with psychedelics has helped me determine what I feel is psychedelic. Seeing that the term psychedelic is subjective to the individual that experiences it, the only way to do that is to make what you as the individual composing feels is psychedelic. Hopefully someone else feels what you did is psychedelic too.

What I've been finding in regards this quote

Or just listen to a load of indian music and get a good teacher who has studied under a native.

is that just listening to the music won't fully help you make it, and a good teacher can only teach you what he feels that music is, plus that guy probably went to India as well so all you're doing is piggybacking off of someone elses impression of something. (I.E. Copy Paste)

Drugs are probably the main cause of generic releases within this genre.

I would have to disagree with that... one of the main causes of generic releases IMHO is the general apathetic nature of the dancefloor. No matter what's being played, someone will dance to it, and someone will flame it later on the message board. I've had tracks rejected by labels because either it didn't work for their style or because I really needed to rework the idea. That was one of the biggest helps I've had as a musician.

While I don't think that you have to do any sort of substance to make music, I feel that you do have to have an indepth understanding of the state you're trying to share with others. I've known people that never took psychedelics that were more tripped out than the flower children in Golden Gate park... There are many ways to alter your consciousness outside of certain substances..........           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

It's funny in my view to read posts from people who are against 'psychedelics' without ever trying one, but yet claim to know what produces a more quality sound of psychedelic trance.

hmmm
