preparing a set ? personally i would never do that .. ok..practising your flow , making a list of your most fav trax from all times(since my memory problem.lol),judging ur trax etc , that bit of homewoek is definetly needed .. but we are in diffrant states of mind in diffrant times and situations and when u prepare ur set (ex @ ur home , studio) you are in a comparatively diffrant state of mind than whn you are playing @ a party ,then its totlly diffrant situation , enviorment , people, vibe certainly a diffrant "feeling" alltogeather.now we all know good music comes from within ,Any thing creative for that matter ..so whan you are creating a story for your audience its got to be in connexion with the kind of feeling and enviorment you and the aaudience are experiencing at that moment ..i believe only then the sound explains itself better and the story has more meaning to it .
if you know your music and yourself well ..pre made sets is pretty boring thing to just stand for 3 hours and play trax in a flow which is already decided ? i need some excitement going on .some experimentation , some thinking , a bit of paranoiah (when i suddenly forget the next track i was suppose to play next and then i remember @ the last moment or end up playing even killer track .not just the audience ..but its a really good experience and learning for the Dj as well . better than standing and presenting trax one after another . anyone who knows to mix can do that...what makes you special? ... unless you are playing your own production .

sometimes also depends on whats running in the pardy

I Agree with WSS , However pre-paring a Set is Useful at Times ,, Just a refrence to the favourite Tracks for " Crowd " not to be Missed in party ,,

mixedinkey.com is worth a look. My sets seem smoother when mixed harmonically.
And knowing what your first track is helps you on your way.
I also like to know how long ive got to play so I know how many tunes I can play & whose on before and after me & what time I'm playing. It all has an influence on which of my favorite tunes I play.

A Dj in my opinion is somebody who makes the crew dancing, nothing more nothing less

A dj is not there to share his own special inner feeling, he needs to makes the people enjoy and dance, then how you do it is a different thing, but it must be something for all those who come there, feel the people, look them... make them dance....

I always make a preparation for a set when I play in partys, but is only a pre idea of what I'm going to play, but sometimes I had to change all my idea and put totally others track as the crew had a different feeling and there is totally impro

that`s it, never worked as dj, but i dont see any problem to you prepare a set, you just dont need to follow what you`ve prepared straight, when you are playin if you feel that you need to make some changes on the set just do it!           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

I just take tunes I have never heard before, spin them out and have a great time.. Its bad when u cant find a track that fits and in the meanwhile your playing track is running out but as much as it is bad, its a great challenge.. So basically I preview tracks while other track is playing..           http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

The Dj is a shaman, he is in control of the minds of people on the dance floor. Knowing your recipe and ingredients is the key. I think we got to a point where we have so many crap djs that we start to hate DJ in general, all because the Dj is considered "somebody who makes the crew dancing, nothing more nothing less". Trance is more than just dance, that's what differentiates it from house or techno or even club music           Monitoring devices, know where you go
Mass media, total control
Digital delight, desire in megabite
Data overflow, virtual suicide
This information, is disinformation
Truth is hidden, knowledge forbidden

I haven't played out psytrance yet but when I spin other stuff, I sometimes have sets of 2 or 3 tracks worked out in advance but I rarely have the entire set planned out.

With club or rave DJing a lot of the tracks have memorable "hooks" and/or vocals that really stick in people's minds, so it's good to play a track that people have heard before and they like.

With psytrance on the other hand (with some exceptions), people go expecting to hear mostly tracks they've never heard before, and a lot of people can barely tell the difference between one track and another, they just care that the tracks are good, and maybe about what style (fullon, goa, prog, dark).

So then, where a club DJ tries to figure out what the crowd likes and give it to them, a psytrance DJ is presenting a group of tracks that he already knows the people will probably like

yeah, for me, the psy dj have to transform all the tracks to look like one big track, or something like that the sound is mutating (okay okay, sound mutating is more of a lsd trip but i like the concept)           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``
