u think a dj should fit himself to who he plays 4? i meen... if u go to play in party and u play XX kind of trance.. and u defintly see the pplz aint diggin it... would u change to YY kind of trance to pleaze them?

i have my opinion and i think in evry genre i can find lots of good "worthplayin" trax... so it depends on the time - acid availabity           www.sattelbattle.com

I try to be versatile and have multiple styles in my case, but whoever is putting together the event should bear in mind what style that each dj prefers to play and schedule the lineup accordingly to fit the best flow. Nothing bugs me more than a bunch of morning djs during the peak nightime hours and the really heavy dark djs playing at 10 am or so... I may be a dj, but anyone who has an internet connection can string together a bunch of tracks that everyone wants to hear. (Top 40 psytrance)

For me a real dj is one who can stray from the usual dancefloor killers and put together a set that can inspire and educate others to all the music that is out there. It always bothers me when I go to a party and run into several djs that are pretty much playing the same thing as the person before them. (which was one of the reasons I began writing music) And yes the crowd should definitely have an influence on what will work on the dancefloor or not, but the crowd should also be adventurous enough to appreciate other people's musical tastes. No matter what, not everyone is going to like what you play, but when it all comes down to it, the vibe is really the dancefloor mover. (This is all my opinion however and many will disagree with my feelings.)           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

well i play what i think croud should hear
and not what crowd want to hear
if u play what they want to hear then u would finish playing tracks from "top10" forum like some mtv dj at kids club

here come to the image ur djing skils
how u made ur sellection of tracks and ect.
how u make the crowd to hear ur set and to find it entertainng to hear it to the end and want for more

thats the point of being dj i think
to play stuff that crowd dont hear everyday and every party
to enlight the crowd to new stuff that they not aware to it

my main goal (and please dont laugh on me) is to play my own kind of dance music that will please all kind of crowd as one, i play mixture of all electronic styles and keep it trashy and interesting all the way so everybody can connet to my set. im prety against all this thing with "trance party" "house party" "techno party".. we all one and what we like is interesting moving groovey beats, so i try to play music for everybody, music that can move u, your neihgboor daughter and your big brother as one.

I do absolutly disagree with u, whats the point of Dj`s if they dont differ, i would never play some special music course thats what the "Croud" want, im not a whore i dont do shit for money...

if people "aint diggin it" i rather go of stage than put bounderies on myself.

..uhm...this topic for sure has got many different answers..
When Silent Scream write:

" in the end ...u play for the crows
not for urself
so play what they really want to hear. "

..I feel to say that depends also what kinda crowd u got on the front of u..
Many times, i've noticed, people are just too high on something or drunk, and they go on screaming and clapping like crazy when they hear in a tune a normal "sirene kinda o'sound" leading to the usual "after 4th minut apex"...well..what to say..easy to make people in that conditions going wild, u could even play NewKidsOnTheBlock or The Simpsons soundtrack and they'll go "Yeaahhh!"...
That's pretty much frustating from my point of view: i'm very picky in the selection of the albums that goes into my cd-books ,and i'm pretty much specialized in psy-twisted-stuff..no commercial "easy2clap" music, so, many times it happened to witness crowds that go wild with that kinda o'stuff, and u may understand why, but then, at the moment it's my turn to play, with "less-average-acceptable-music" (..hope u know what i mean...)i personally have much more a biggest satisfaction when u see them loosing it because in what ur playing there's really some psychedelik elements, sounds going in all directions of ur brain, different layers of soundscapes to explore..close ur eyes and dance...

What can i say? since i discovered what kinda of psy i really like, i don't need nothing to get high, musik does its job by itself.
Other thing:
Yes- u also have to keep an eye on the crowd response to each track u select, but i still couldnt change too much my "style" for people's taste, that is so different..
If i don't shake my ass behind the dj boot, no way i can make other people enjoy what i'm doing, and that happen only if i follow my personal line.
More to say, when i go party as a dancer, i always know who's gonna play, and conforming to that i decide if to go or not; if in the line up there are artists which i'm not really going crazy for their style, i don't go...unless i'm looking for a chatting-party...
Same point goes for the organizers:
ok- a dj should have, in the occasion, to be also versatile, but still, it's better if people do what they do their best, so it's a bit of a nonsense to put a "night-dj" on a morning set (where he-she must go crazy digging into the cd-books to find out some last minutes remedies..), or the other way around...
So also the crowd, as the artists and organizers, should have to make their 'homeworks'

...many other points i may forget to mention here (or too many i've been blablaing already..) , but i need another coffie first!           :: Sub Kuch Milega ::

i think if u playing the music u mostly playing and the crowd are not enjoying so u must fit yourself to the crowd...and give them what they want...but still play stuff that u like
like Tsabeat said "in every genre i can find lots of good "worthplayin" tracks" i agree with that!

ohh yeah its easy when u got play "meteloids" then u can b sure they dig it!!!

btw - i have in my case anyway just stuff i love offcourse.. non of us here is a commercial pleb... but for me its sometimes play "tits on fire" instead lets say "texas faggot"... totaly diffrent vibe but yet.. i like it both and it still between one side of extreme psychadelic - to the other extreme...           www.sattelbattle.com
