well dear nathan i do get your point but i do not eccept it...the dj /artists get peyd for duing the job ,u pey some entrance money so...whay wont they do the best job possibole??? whay not give u the real thing or et least try to ??? whay take bred when u diserve cack???
same with alboms /compilations when u pey 89.99 for cd u will take the best u cen get no??or try to get least..

eny wey compromising on such issus as the quality of the set/live act u pey for and come to dance to,will leed u to a shelow point where u wont be able eny more to feel a true trance expiriance and u will loose the abuility to jodge the quality of the artist/dj as it is ,u will miss the rer moments that it is realy happening (and i tell u its rer).

peace.

btw

i never seyd that the skils of the dj artist or the jurny is more important then the quality of the music.

You are saying that because u are a Professional DJ and u hear/mix/play music in your way which is probably different from mine. To be honesT I m not sure if I ever heard a DJ taking the ppl to a Real Journey. In fact I can remember only one time: lish at the maxim club.
Anyway I hope to get a chance to listen to your set and understand your state of mined.
Maybe on the 16.12.05

For me, it was very important to be a dj first. I was able to learn the different structures of the music and was able to learn what things work great for the dancefloor, and what things work well for listening at home. That also really allowed me to decide the type of music that I wanted to make and how I was able to make my ideas come to fruition a bit better. My overall goal was to make music that would keep the floor moving while having each individual track take the listener on a journey, and using the skills I had acquired as a dj, be able to constuct a good set using just my own music.

Another thing that reaffirmed my position on being a dj first before writing music, was seeing many artists that made incredible music, but couldn't mix very well. As a dancer who was informed about the music I was listening to, that bugged the crap out of me, so I didn't want to be that type of individual. Also, as an artist, you don't really wanna drag your laptop and gear to every show you play at, so being a competent dj will assist you in being able to play your stuff without having to set up a live set every time you want to play.

So it really depends on what you want to do, if you wanna just make music and not bother with djing, psytrance is one of the few genres where it's not manditory that you beat match every single track, but if you enjoy djs that mix well and you want to invest the time, I'd go for learning to dj as well as being an artist if you wish to.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

It's rare. But I will find! I am still young: and the whole life is a head of me. And besides, it's not like I am suffering on the other parties. I usually have the beat time!
This dictation made me think about something. I am gona open another topic in the next minute.
Thanks huda - g

That is a very interesting discussion actually, I will add my 5 rupee.

In 1997 I was part of a small family party in the Forum backyard in Beer Sheva. At that party performed two of the biggest trance masters of that time, and since it was very small it was very easy to follow the whereabouts of each.

There was Tsuyoshi, who's mixing skills need no introduction and at that time he was also very controversial since he mixed everything in his set. This time it was psychedelic breakbeat time. Fantastic DJ skills + excellent track choice broke my bones.

After him came XDream - it was a few months before their Radio album was released and they played DAT if I am not mistaken, so forget about beatmatching ok? Well I was so much shaken by their show, it was at least as strong for me as the virtuoso Japanese on the decks before them.

When you are REAL ARTIST and make music out of your soul, for sure u must know how to tell stories hehe and taking ppl on a journey, and I believe TRUE ARTIST will do that better than most DJ's around especially if it is his own music. Ofcourse there are the technicalities such as mixing skills, but this is so easy to learn.

From the other side, all the generic stuff that came out of the trance world last years, is the straight 'blame' of the CDJ and the possibility to mix 145bpm tunes non stop. Once when we were playing DAT, no one would harass u if suddenly in the morning after a long 145 session the speed would drop suddenly to 138 - as long as it flows... Today this is virtually impossible, the DJ might be hanged if he did so...

So I guess that is my point about DJ's vs Artists           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

It may be true sometimes, I agree. Though at the same time, while an artist can make a set of his own music to take you to deep places, that music is usually not synched to the vibe/crowd unlike a good DJ who will always fit the music to the moment.

Also, I wouldn't say that good artists somehow possess a deeper understanding of music than good DJs. If anything, most artists I've met are usually ignorant of the wider spectrum of music out there beyond their immediate stylistic neighborhood, i.e. a full-on morning artist will know next to nothing about dark or prog psy, for example.

          ..it's just another party..

try to make it in the flow throo your set..start 145 and finish 135 throo a flowing beatmix`d set,it wold sound beter i guess...

and yes! tims are changing and tecnics of djing are a part of the requaierments of a good dj but it is only upgrading the skils and more innoveting for us as djs and more quality for the croud!
