Whats the difference between both?

Does an artist has to transform him/herself to the DJ process....

Or u can be an artist without being a DJ?           _____________________________________________

Artist is a musician. Someone who makes music.
DJ is someone who plays the music. Who knows how to mix between tracks and crease a set.
One can be a DJ and an Artist. There are artists who are geniuses in the music creation but with no mixing skills. but in the and of the day what is important is the music creation!

some '' artists '' are just like dj's
they are mixing samples from movies.. or others...
puting kick and bass on it,
3 leads, and 2 channels of beats..
and they have created '' art ''

not exactly my freind the fact that the music is good dus not meen that u cen just press the pley boton et the cdj et a party and the place will rock the dj roll is et least as important es the music roll et the game cuse he pics the music and mix it and shaps the atmosphre using the music so if we r talking about party related issus then its like that its not what is more importent its how u put it all tugether, the dj roll and the music roll.

i seyd that cuse in the end of the dey/nighat we r tallking about dance music and what counts is the dance flor!

about DJ's ..
i think that mixing beats is kinda easy, all you need to do is learn the technique and thats it alltho DJing isnt only about mixing beats, in my opinion good DJ measured by the way he "feels" the crowd, a good DJ will know when to play what.
i realy dont know if thats something you can learn or not, ofcourse experience will make you better.
and about artist's music creation... well its all a matter of taste so no point going there.           --------------------------------------------

so what do u guys recommend?

First one should learn DJ skills and then go for music creation

Or simply hit off with music creation.....           _____________________________________________

very well put.

as to what you should do first.. just look inside and see - are you more drawn to playing music in front of people, or would you rather work by yourself for many hours making magical sounds? both can be very rewarding, and very difficult as well...

the first step would be to become very, very familiar with the music - its structure, how it builds, how it plays with the head and the ears and everything around it...
          ..it's just another party..

I Know that it will sound to u without any logic, and i completely understand it, but I gona say it anyway. I do not care if an artist will come & press play and that will be all. sure that its better when there is a dj/arstist with professional mixing skills and/or live set. I come to parties to enjoy the music. I do not ask anything but that. good mixed set is a bonus.

agree
give me the best dj (best mixes), if he'll play some bad music for my taste i'll say he suck
but if you give me a dj with the worse mixing skills ever and he plays only the best music (for my taste) and i'll say he's much better than the other dj
music is the most important !
mixing skills are a bonus
good mixing skills are a big bonus

well... i think u r all wrong cuse i was not tallking about the dj skils more or less important i was seyng that it is not less important what, how and why u as an artist/dj put and if u do it profetionaly and make a story out of it rather then just"put" your music then u r a preformer cuse the pley boton we all cen press! but a true jurny throo music and sound
well...thats somthing alse..

i guess some ppl forgot what is trance is all about... ita a JURNY !!!

Lets not use the words right or wrong.
Its true that Trance can be a Journey, but sometimes its just Trance. Just a mix.
for sure journey set in way more better experience, but I can settle for less.. but not in the quality of the music. Its like with concept albums and compiled ones. Most of the artist release albums which are like compilations with no journey (concept) and its fine. And there are artist who release journey albums which are 1000 times better from the compiled ones.

I hope you got my point.

well dear nathan i do get your point but i do not eccept it...the dj /artists get peyd for duing the job ,u pey some entrance money so...whay wont they do the best job possibole??? whay not give u the real thing or et least try to ??? whay take bred when u diserve cack???
same with alboms /compilations when u pey 89.99 for cd u will take the best u cen get no??or try to get least..

eny wey compromising on such issus as the quality of the set/live act u pey for and come to dance to,will leed u to a shelow point where u wont be able eny more to feel a true trance expiriance and u will loose the abuility to jodge the quality of the artist/dj as it is ,u will miss the rer moments that it is realy happening (and i tell u its rer).

peace.

btw

i never seyd that the skils of the dj artist or the jurny is more important then the quality of the music.

well mr ron,im surprised to hear this from u after all u r a dj yourself..
judging a dj is a bit triki cuse u need to be able to separet your aown taste and try to be objective cuse u cen see a dj very good but not your kind of music..or your taste.. i bet u that the best and bigest djs worldwide are not your taste..so is that maks them bad djs??? a bad dj is a bad dj its a dj wich dusent conect to the croud that pleys poor produced music that pley from ego that dusent know to mix and to chuse the trecks .
and a well mixed set is not a bonus its a nececeri! this is part of the dj work or shuld we try put the realpleyer to pley et a party and put the best trecks to run...
