THE ONLY NECCESERY FOR MIXING PSY-TRANCE IS KILL SWITCHES AT THE EQ SECTION AND A BPM COUNTER,TALENT ALSO!BUT IF YOU MAKE A REAL LIVE ITS VERY HARD TO SYNCHRO SEQUENCER,SYNTHS,SAMPLERS,MIDI CONTROLER AND MANY OTHER DEVICES.DUE TO PLUG-INS AND VST,DXi TECHNOLOGY THE THINGS ARE EASIER NOW. |

I call the fading technic: "Mixing like hippies". Fading is a technic every DJ should know tho! You never know when you'll have missed a mix and need a good crossfade to not completly kill the vibes!(a crossfade keep the vibes better then a debeating cacophony)
I mix all my track at the "psy point of no return". I find out that almost all, if not ALL, psy track has it's last break down point around -2:00 min from the end. Some ppl do it at -2:30(rare) and other at -1:30. Once you heard that break down you should already be counting beats to 8(i prefer 8 cuz 4 get messy on 32 beats) and you should start the other tracks 1st kick on the first kick after the break down. If this is donne correctly you'll be mixing a Psy track almost perfectly. Nothing better then 2 track blending together their breakdown perfectly!

hmm i agree and disagree with whats been said, i still thin that honestly, with mixing psy trance, a style and consestent groove are really really importent, beat matching also yes, but (for me) more important is the individual style played by an idividual, if every one is always spinning the same stuff and style, this is boring, and especially disturbing if ots lazy mixing going on...........i always concentrate more on what was played when....mentaly composing a set of tracks that meld together and complement eachouther, bringing new ellements into them....you can be the best technical dj in the world, but, if your not grooving and choosing sweet quality tunes...then well, dont matter how well ya mix caN still be quite boring and anyone who has ever had to hold a floor wilst playing on dat or md knows, you gotta know yo music !!! the dj in psy is but a conduit..........

Ehm, They don't really. they do either fade mixes or end-cut mixes. no beatmixing (actually i've heard ari linker manage to beatmix DAT's with tracks that had the same BPM exactly and for a short time only)

jeez, took me a long time to read this one.
well any way ive been practising my djing for about 8 months now and am sounding better all the time (practise makes perfect). i think most ppl have a point, you need technical skill, a feeling for what you are playing and charisma. i saw skazi in cape town and ended up going without any drugs. it was one of the best times ive had, he kept me on the dance floor completely sober from 11pm til 6am when he came off. i danced like a maniac throughout his set. he had a monster presence and mixes like a beast, which suits his style perfectly.
im trying to say that like any disapline you need traing and also it depends on who you are and what your mission is. a dj that lets his ego get in way will hit after hit couse he thinks it will be cool, where as a good dj will play a combination of unknowns and killers plus change the feel from absolute madness to more chilled and visa versa.
its the journey thats important and tour guides need to know the landscape, be able to see and engage with there group.
peace. |

thanks to all you guys it's been delight to hear what all you ha to say about Djing and mixing different genres its been quite a time i have been doing Djing and would only say one thing every genre has a different style of mixing we cant say what is easy n what is hard we all play with our heart n the soul of the music it's crowd who tells us whether we r good or bad. it's about you understanding a genre and playing that by your heart and you put your self into that rhythm where the music madness spells over to every one present. I have known Djs who very well play House music n Psy trance and i have heard tracks of famous djs who use psy tunes in their house sets so its all ambient now its all about getting creativity i use accapellas of different genres while i make my sets n i believe many of us do if you dont try to do, it will make your set sound very different n creative.... |

Psytrance has verious "Sub Genres"
1. Progressive
2. Full On
3. Night
4. Goatrance
etc. etc. etc.
Some basic mixing techniques (I speak with experience as I was a trainer @ a DJ School and have worked with some fine DJs and Artists) ... was also a Psy DJ.
Mixing is when you match 2 beats (KICKS) they both run at the same BPM. It is only possible to have a fundamentally correct MIX running, when you have straight beats. Its relatively easy to mix progressive and full on since they have one minute intro of only kicks which can be mixed in while the other track can be faded. The only way to achieve success is to get your hands dirty on a set of Professional CD Players which have a Pitch Control function. I recommend Pioneer or Denon. A couple of hours of practise will get u going for a party.
The other types of DJing involves "fade out" of the track playing and "fade in" of the track cued (whats coming next)
There is a lot of creativity which is involved in mixing and once you perfect it ..... possibilities are endless. You can perfecting your fade ins using tone cuts on the mixer and bringing the track alive at the point you wish it would come on.
You can experiment by cueing the track on "off" and then try and mix to bring out some crazy sounds...
Try mixing three tracks in one go using three CD players... you will be able to produce a superb variation.
What you can achieve is a melting pot of sounds and frequencies each of which can be controlled with a tweak of a knob.
DJing is an art .... get knowing, you will love it ... and in turn give your fellow partygoers a musically rich experience !!

There's definitely not enough scratching by dj's in this scene. And MC'ing is lacking. Raja Ram should definitely have a mic wrapped around his old decrepit skull and blabber out his psychedelic mumbo jumbo.
