Does anyone use this stuff in the trance scene? Basically all other genre's this stuff is becoming the standard. But in trance it's either a "live" in Ableton or its cdjs. After watching Richie Hawtin's demonstration I am totally convinced this is where its at. I mean for a hobbyist like myself it's pricey. But man the possibilities are endless. Any views?

ableton Live is dj software...

the standar in trance is the infamous playact using ableton live, cubase and even a single wav file in any player. There are also stories around here of artist conecting their iPod.

DVS are not going to found any appeal in trance scene since vynil has been dismissed way long ago.

And why use it with cdjs and bring a laptop and a soundcard everywhere when you can do it with 20 cd's??

Its just not practical.

But what I see in the near future is that real live acts using lemur, monome and more controllers for their presentation.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

I started using the Vestx VCI-300 with Serato Itch and I'm very happy with the results and possibilities!

I find it great to use at my friend's house for techno/acid techno/drum n bass/break beats... basically all the non-trance genres.

Firstly, unless the gig has a set up that mean I only need to take my lappy or portable hard drive to a gig, I ain't drgging al that gear out to the bush or beach!!

Secondly, it is lighter and easier to just pack in 100+ cd's into my Slappa case which is awesome for protecting your cd's and take that along in a back pack/shoulder bag.

Finally, if you really wanna use files you can always ask the organiser to use Pioneer CDJ400's

I can't see it taking off in this scene at all, it is much more for clubs, indoor festivals and bars.

Plenty of people are using Traktor, Live, and Torq for djing..the main benefit is that it's usually cheaper when you can't afford decks to practice on, and you can play with fx in a much more dynamic way.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

...I doubt that there is the big price difference between 2xCDJ+Mixer and Computer+Soundcard+Controller...

if you take out the laptop price of $1000 minimum then yeah it is cheaper, btu here where I live the basi cTorq package is $890 + Laptop $1000 = $1890AU

I got my 2 Pioneer dj100s+Pioneer DJM400 new in-store for $1500

so actualyl it is cheaper to get a cdj rig than digital dj, but seeing as most of us have a computer then the digital dj pack may be an alternative.

in the end I think it is just personal choice. I like my cdj's and mixing with hardware           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

CD's unlike vinyl (which has sex appeal and freq' range differences) will die very soon....like vinyl there is no point in carrying a shit load of weight which enables little creative freedom...i mean how many styles of music will you schlep around with....

of course there will always be late adapters and fanatics (Zoolog )

and me.

the day cd's die out completely is the day my music collection will stop and my dj'ing.

sure if I ever release musicit would bein the common format of the time, but I just feel no connectiion with a file. It's like getting a fake dvd or fake branded clothing, you treat it like shit because it's just not as good as the real physical element.

btw have heard the cd will not die out, at least in popular music, for quite some time           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

True, but you aren't considering that a lot of people already have laptops that can easily run Traktor or Live for DJ use. For them, another $1500 on decks and a mixer might seem a bit illogical when you're a beginner.

edit: @sergeantpepper          You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

what Kane said AND....

I understand how people get attached to the shinny plastic, jewel case the and art work etc (or what you call "physical element") but i guess im not as "emotional", i rather have highest quality format, variation and amazing layout and accessibility and learn to live with the JPG'd art work...

My friend sergeantpepper666...Brian (from "The Life Of") once said "you are all individuals" and us sheep replied together "YES! we are all individuals!!"

May we all live in happiness           "....or is it???"

It's definitely the future - it will be easier, more handy and have much more creative possibilities than CDJ's.

The current situation on the psytrance-scene isn't ready to totally make this shift though, but I guess I'll make the shift sometime in the next few years.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase
