i think tal is talking about the feeling when u have to work preaty hard to get the mix...
its just shows 2 yourself all your skills.
u know that it can b hard... but when u hear the final thing... and u c the crowd going mad, and u know that u handeled it in the hardest way,
it can feel much better that the mix with the computer.
may-b i didnt put it out on the best way... try 2 understand it :)

Well...

I understood both points of view, but I mostly agree with Dr. Borris... Of course you need to proove your skill while mixing, but u do not have to fight with the equipment.... We´re not talking about self mixing machines, but, in case of CDJ-1000, something that really puts you as near as possible to the vinyl mixing feeling... when you turn the cdj-1000 into the vinyl mode (yes, you can use it as a regular cdj or as a vinyl immitation), it´s much harder to mix (it was for me, because I´m much more used to the regular cdj´s mode).... so, if you´re one of those guys who believes that mixing with vinyls is the big deal, try the cdj-1000... that´s my point of view...

ok, lets make some order...
its true that the optimal settings would be the pioneers (it doesnt matter what set). but I still believe that a professional DJ should know how to operate ALL types of DJ equipment and not be limited to one kind of CDJs - its like a soldier who knows only how to use M-16 but doesnt know the rest of the possible weapons on the field - what would happen if he lost his gun and the only availble weapon is the enemy's AK-47?

a true professional is one who knows how to operate all types his trade's equipment - starting from knowing how to work with EQ, Gains, and have (at least) some knowledge in sound (so many DJs know shite about sound and have no idea how to produce good clear sound from their end of the equipment) - because you never know what equipment will be availble to you on the set.

but my point was that working the pioneers takes 5-10 minutes to learn (specialy with the pioneer mixer which got the BPM counter), but then you are limited to pioneers only. once you learn how to operate the 'lower' types of CDJs, then you will master the mixing skills, because it takes much more to find and keep the beat synchronized.
