I remember a few years ago. BMG and the other big labels wanted to make normal working people fines if they didnt pay money for playing the radio to customers.

One of the cases was a lady working as a hair dresser (She worked alone from her home) and she, as most businesses played the radio to the customers so that they could listen to some music while having their hair done. .. Luckely the case was blown up in the media so the goverment had to "stop" BMG. Silly, making you pay to play the radio.. money money money

PS. this was also the case if "she" played a CD that she had bought. BMG still wanted gher to pay IF she played the CD to her customers.

What says on psytrance CDs is just a regularity.

People make copies of their CDs, they rip them and distribute them and that is what psy labels and artists are not OK with.

But if you want to put speakers on a rooftop of a building and blast some psy in an urban area...GO FOR IT. Denis will surely not sue you

From what I know in the U.K. is that every club/bar/venue has a public performance license... this means that any DJ playing there is allowed to play the tracks because the venue itself is allowed to have the music played there.
Any music played should (theoretically) also give the artists royalties...

What? No way? Haven't you already paid the royalties buy buying the CD?

in a couple of years we'll have to pay the air we breath.......
a peacemaker will be implanted at birth and if we don't gain enough life credits by working and acting like a model citizen our heart will be shutten down, we won't need no money, no credit cards; the air we breath will be accounted to our count by passing a laser scanner on the bar code on our neck, we will have to pay royaltyies to monsanto for drinking a tee, and and and sorry for going offtopic a little

I thought promoters, like shops, could purchase a license say for a period of time that allows them to then play music in a public place, any music. Usually this is done by a government body... then when somebody comes and asks if they have permisioon for said dj to play tunes, he can shows the document and it's all ok... but I doubt small parties fo 50-100 need to worry much.

Like NikC said... it means that you are covered by the law, because imagin how much loss in profit a shop or radio station would have if they have to pay $1-2 every time a track is played... it'd be thousands of dolars a day... $20 a cd, over 8 hours in a shops, would $160 a day, over 7 days, is $1,000+ a week

I agree with the idea that everyone who buys a cd is also and already buying the right for playing it (public performance). I guess that copyright textlines are in fact directed more to huge recording companies like BMG, Sony, Virgin, etc. I can tell that here in Brazil there is an institution charged of making fiscalization over artists (mostly pop/rock bands or single singers) who play other artists music compositions in public places, charging them money for the the right to play that music. Thus, every band or singer here uses to pay to affiliate to that institution (they only need to register themselves once) and, this way, receive something like a "registered musician ID card" to show them everytime they ask for it.
I hope i was clear..

Today I noticed on my psytrance CDs that many of them say:

"Unauthorized copying, public performance, broadcasting, hiring or rental of the recording prohibited."

DJs are not allowed to play CDs at parties, or make a backup copy. I spent alot of money on CDs but I just notice this now. This is really upsetting... not that it will stop me from playing, but I thought that instead of downloading mp3, I had the right to play if I pay and support artist/label.

Can anyone clarify??

Fuck em if they can't take a joke ...WHy Do they Sell DJ mixer's? WHy DO they Sel DJ MUSIC? Bcause GOD Said its OKAY,,,,,,
