i have the worst mixer in the world!numark m1,2 channels,no mids.you simply can't have a proper mix!bought it whith 2 pioneers 400 cause of low budget...in half a year faders and knobs are distorting.but now i'm going for the nuo5.and yes i think effects are very usefull specially during the mix...
btw i hate the fact that mixers whith fx in each channel are much more expensive than those in the master!

Good choice, i had the nuo5 myself for a while and i loved it
If you're going for a brand new nuo, maybe you should check out the evo4 also.

evo4 would be perfect cause of the each channel fx but...out of budget

you can add fx on each channels on the nuo as well, just turn on the 'fx send' on the channels you wish

Of course you can connect ableton to your mixer. Just use the output of your soundcard. Would be great if it has two outputs so you could have one output for each track individually. Kinda necesarry actually if you want to dj with ableton. For info on this check the manual of your soundcard.

Pretty much all mixers are fine for at home i'd say. But if you are doing anything professional with it. I'd go for a pioneer (not the cheaper ones like the djm300 though) or a Allen &Heath. Although i really don't like the 4 band eq on those ones.

I purchased an Ecler Nuo 4.0 and Im very happy with it. It lacks functions yes but for the purist dj's who like eq and fader mixing isa delight: the eq's are perfect the faders are as smooth as scratch mixers and the sound is very very good, superior to a pioneer 600 any day.

Also if you are going to use it a lot for gigs its double XLR output is very useful and its also very well build so no fear of falling appart.
