Wow, things getting a bit impassioned around here! A good thing I would say, healthy debate is positive for the community.
The loudest will be addressed first - Alakazam you seem to be very aligned with Orb and while that festival may have been better for you, it was unsafe for your fellow trancers! No amount of bad vibes from fellow festival goers can be worse than the feeling of possibly being injured and not being taken care of (since there was no insurance on the property). The organizers of that festival seemed to be truly just trying to make money at the expense of the people attending.
This festival seemed to be a bit of both, somewhere in between - inviting all the aggressive and non-selfaware etard types was bad for the psy community but they at least had their permitting, sound system, food and things being cleaned up to par. Way less of a money grab at this festival than at Orb. The other end of the spectrum seems to be Gaian Mind, which meets all the ideals one expects in a psy festival.
I totally agree the people I generally met at Orb were positive but I felt pretty weirded out by the lack of organization and had a hard time letting go and actually enjoying the music (when there WAS music).
During this event I quickly learned how to deal with my neighbors - and I and my girlfriend were right on TOP of the GDF dudes and their huge setup right in the middle of the camp. We were sketched the hell out for a few hours, there was only the two of us and our neighbors were certainly not what I would have chosen to camp next to. I have an advantage of not looking like any stereotype so they were generally friendly to me and I returned that favor - because I talked to them and got to know them they watched out for my area and vice versa. It did suck that I couldn't be myself and talk about MY music at MY festival but it was a fact of life. I spent most of my time down at the actual festival. I secured my car and area every time we left. A hassle? Yes. Ruin my festival? No way!
Whereas at Orb I was stuck in a black moldy cabin with no latch at all and still had to secure all my stuff in car, plenty of "zombies" coming up into my area when we weren't there rooting around through our stuff and feeling actually MORE insecure because of the setup in the hills at Echo Lake. Its a matter of perspective I guess.

To give you an idea what the other communities are thinking: "I would like to say, the best performance for me, that I watched was St8cyde Jumpup. They destroyed that festival. Man... I gotta wait for my uploads to do their thing but damn dudes, I was so proud of you guys for showing that main stage up! So awesome! "
So yeaaah major culture clashes.
And those kids are not the kids that were bothering you in the parking lots - the parking lot kids are "Grateful Dead Family" - GDF, Family, etc. Who look like dirty homeless kids and some who just look kind of thugged out and they listen to jam bands and grateful dead all the time. They all went to see UMelt, so really it was a clash of three communities - jam-band/bisco kids, rave/dnb kids, and psy-adults.

Alakazam told me about this Earthdance incident when I met him at Orb. I don't think he's lying about it, just let it go everyone. He had plenty of other nice things to say about the fest. I also highly doubt he's hating on this festival.
Everyone has different experiences at festivals, it baffles me that some people don't seem to realize this. People also need to realize that one person's negative comments about a festival don't affect anyone but the organizers. You can ask people to clarify their statements or give examples, but if they legitimately feel a certain way, that is their right and it's not like you're gonna change their mind.

Good things:
I made a few new connections and solidified some old ones.
Music:
Ajja was awesome!!!! And I am glad that he played for so long!!!
Jellyheadz killed it for me!!!! My favorite set of the whole festy!!! Stomped a few holes in the ground and also in my feet! He was not as minimal dark as I expected. Just driving psychedelic music!!!!
Melorix sounded like machine gun music. Every once in a while, he would have a stomping part; but it was few and far between.
Dave and Lauryn totally killed it at the secondary stage! What a great set from the Philly folks!!!!
Also: other highlights for me:
Onkle Dunkle put down a very groovy set. I danced my ass off to his music!!!
And I have to mention Pat-Karmakanik who delivered the booty-shaking tracks that he has been known for.
Philly represented well: for sure!!!
Oh, and I can't forget the OOze guys!!!!
WAY COOL stuff from them!!! That was one of the first sets I heard, and one of the Best!
Overall; there was some great music!
Maybe if I was camped in a different area I wouldn't have such a bad taste in my mouth...

Yeah they did do a nice job - too bad that area was a bit bumpy but they still tore it up.
Anyone know who was spinning at the secondary stage (rata?) on friday night as the sun was setting? Some real brazillian stuff. |

Hey ALAKAZAM i think angry people like you need to stay oway from festivals cause all you do is talk a big game. maybe not all the time but u offended me.
i go to parties to dance and have a good time with people , people in psy community were the best when i partied , now some of you are no diffrent then the ravers.

This is so ignorant. People need to be MORE sensitive to the needs of our environment. we've totally trashed the planet, and the slightest good deed DOES make a difference. If everyone at the party wasn't an ignorant moron, then no one would need to WORRY about the trash. How hard is it reall to not throw trash on the ground. Seriously. Tell me. Is this where we've come after all these years? It takes literally no effort at all to dispose of trash and recyclables properly. Also, on a side note, aren't you the one who said you DJ for the "bitches"? Yeah, yeah that was you. Not for the music, for the bitches. yeah

If ur a psytrancer and you think you don't have to pick up trash that's on the ground (why does it matter who put it there, it's on the ground) you're doing something wrong.
I've seen headliners stay at the end of a 3 day festival and help pick up garbage and even carry speakers off the stage.
No one is saying that everyone is required to do this, but your attitude towards this situation is as stinky as the ground trash we are speaking of. It's not a me versus you situation, it's about respecting the planet and the grounds that allowed you to stay there. I have the mentality of leaving a place NICER than it was when I got there.

My aim was not to attack you, I understand your angle but disagree. Ascension, I agree with you. I actually DIDN'T pay to get into this festival, as I was on the bill, however I did pick up trash when I saw it on the ground. I do this when I'm not at a festival. I do this all the time. If everyone in the world did, we'd have a much cleaner home on our hands. No disrespect, but Desiderata was a mini-vacation for me too, but that certainly didn't stop me from picking up trash when I saw it on the ground.
