I got this CD for a friend of mine, but I thought I'd give it a listen. I am not a fan of Derango or the dark forest trance style. I think it is a terrible album. Each song has an incredibly repetitive bassline that after the first two minutes begins to give me a headache, on top of which is a ton of crazy chirping, scratching noises. The bassline is too repetitive to dance to and the chirping is not worth listening to at home.

2/10

But hey, this is not my style.           Kent

King Salmon, this is what a style about, destructive synth noises aka Dark. Basslines are weakest point of Derango guys i agree with you, they are the same and not the best can be.           "there once was a lesbian from Cancun
who took a young man up to her room
where there argued all night as to who had the right
to do what, how much and to whom"

salmon - repetitive basslines ? i hear different one every three minutes, there are lots of bassline types on this album, sometimes fucked up funky vibes, sometimes very powerful.

Every three minutes? So two or three changeups per track? You have to admit that this is very much below the industry standard. Whether you think this is a good thing or not, I will leave that for you to decide.           Kent

no doubt about it that it's a plus.
i'm sick of albums that are made on one bassline
i don't give a s**t about industry standards, i'm looking for unique intelligent music made with exhaustive work and detailism, and derango is exactly what i want.

sure, the derango album is made in a certain style - basslines are mostly the same throughout the album, and so are the sounds.

still it's very complex, took me at least 10 listens to start figuring it out.. very powerful music, very psychedelic. but there is something in it that turns me off - a lack of emotion perhaps, or of humor.. I can appreciate the power of the music, but have trouble 'feeling' it. It doesn't send shivers down my spine the way Zik or Penta, or even some older Derango tracks do.

While I will certainly be playing this album out at parties for some time to come - and making everyone dance and gasp and scream - I doubt I'll be listening to it at home very often. And I believe it's the 'listen at home' test, which, in the end, is what truly determines the greatness and longevity of a piece of music.

          ..it's just another party..

Very good album, Derango delivered a top quality masterpiece allthough the mastering can be better. I like the funky basslines a lot, there is plenty of variety to find on this album.

Killer album really it is the release of the year, incredibly acidic and twisted sounds, a double dip into the madness of derango.Thank you.
