in my opinion, it should be written on clear mind when you know what you want to express, the music comes from clear mind and heart. most of "on drug" music is hard to understand if you not "there or nearby"

for me .... what makes the music trully psychedelic is when u can trully and fully immerse yourself in the music ..... using the music as a sort of medium to go places ....
what does it for me is the layers and building up of melodies that music like hallucinogen and doof have in it ....
but ... as many ppl have said before ... for each person ... psychedlic means a slightly different thing ... and it is extrmely hard to explain...

This is a brief and simplified overview of trance inducing music, since the word trance is closely associated with the musical genre. There is a connection between trance theory and the musical genre 'trance music' or 'techno trance' as well as the trance inducing music of shamans of Africa, Central and South America and other areas. Moreover, ritual music of many western and eastern cultures has trance inducing aspects which can be analyzed and described using trance theory.
The general trance inducing aspect of music is well-known, but trance theory helps to specifically identify those aspects of music which induce trance, and lays the foundation for describing the nature of the specific trance.

The Beatles 'White Album' & Pink Floyd 'Umma Gumma' are my references for psychedelic music. Those kinda vibes which is all over the Shpongle albums but completely unavailable in most 'psy'trance...thats psychedelica for me.
The term psytrance is imo a misnomer...it hardly contains elements that were historically recognized as psychedelic. |

whatever can create enough of an atmosphere that will change your conciesness and be able to take u to a place of a diffrent awareness...and not only "wow im a good dancer and my glowing t-shirt is so wicked i'm the "psy dude" of the party" whether endless bleeps and screeches on top of 150bpm....or cheesy melodies on top of 145  bpm.... if u are able to "break on thru to the other side" and be your self with out trying to.......is psychedelic for me.....i usually get there with a looooow bpm dark deep pads and some abstract sounds....but thats just me...to each his own

it has to give you the feeling that there is a lot more to this reality...
it has to do smthing with your cortex,

Psychedelic is that feeling of vastness, being at one with the enormity of the universe. It is that feeling of the presence of another world that is just behind this one. It is that feeling of a current running through everything, everything buzzing with the hum of the source. It is that feeling of there being invisible vibrating strings that link people, the tension in the string fluctuating as I interact with the person it links me to. Sexual attractions are humming strings that vibrate ever more frantically until they snap, burst into flames or bind together the people in question. In the spring the hums of countless billions of strings between people, plants, insects, birds becomes a deafening roar.
Psychedelic is the creeping feeling of the cold and unforgiving mother nature standing watch, trees are totem poles standing standing guard and watching me live my comfy bousouise life with stern disapproval. The leaves on the trees are stained glass and place in the forest where I am standing is a cathederal. At the drop of a cigarette butt everything becomes silence and I can feel the entire forest glaring in disapproval. Key to the psychedelic feeling is the feeling that the world is very much aware of my presence, and will not hesitate to wipe from its face if I make the wrong move. Kali licks her lips hungrily and waits for me to fuck up, waits for me to get fat and stupid and lazy and let my guard down so she can take the meal that she is of course garunteed in the end anyway.
So to boil that down into a few key bullet points
Psychedelic for me is:
- A feeling of my being intensely aware of my surroundings.
- A feeling of extreme, at times painfully intense connection with the people around me.
- A strong awareness my mortality and the pathetic vulnerabilty of the soft flesh of the physical body.
- A feeling of cosmic interconnectedness between all things

is always very subjective and personal
and seems to define one person's musical taste
instead of the (non-)psychedelic content of the music.
proggy lovers seem to ban everything faster than 142 from psychedelism,
whereas the full on freaks think "if it's too fast you're too old" ..
when i think i lost it, my sense of 'what is psychedelic'
i usually play 'bitches brew' by miles davis
and all clouds disappear from view.
psychedelic music is not confined to trance, on the contrary,
it's like tripping ..
when u want to have a spiritual experience
it usually turns out to be something different,
just as when people want to make psychedelic music
they end up making disco, quite too often nowadays.
