I like "grey area" tracks that exist in the border of trance and techno, with a minimal feel to them.

Like this tune:

there is some really close to dark techno trance from the past but no idea about names

I still have (yes I am this old ):

These may sound a bit cheesy today, but consider it was early 90ties this came out. Also it was called often "new beat" back then.....

And thanks to all - actually I found some cool stuff in this thread here

AH and early bands like FRONT242 finally crossed this sound with wave to.... EBM:

Yeah not much at all, even Boshke Beats & Horns n Hoo have gone commercial with their tech sounds. For proper techno you might wanna check Dave The Drummer out.

It's funny how I used to hate post 2000 minimal & prog psy but compared to the rubbish released under these sub genres in the last half decade that early stuff is amazingly good from any perspective. Give me Intact Instinct, Planet BEN, Son Kite, The Delta, Midi Miliz, Spiralkinda, Spiralianz, Organic Noise, COP etc. any day over the crap in this scene today.           Cuntus Maximus.

Mh, werent these bands the beginning of the so called progressive stuff ? I remember when I still went out to parties, clubs etc. we go to a party which was announced as goa (+chill out)....however most of it sounded more technoid. I asked some girl, who explained to me that this was "progressive". I guess it was stuff like Atmos and co. to this time...

Funny thing I got into progressive (if this is really progressive) quite a lot later. But in the earlier days I thought it sucked at least if you were used to classic goa at parties..... but todays stuff doesnt even sound like any of this neither classic nor progressive, seems to be a new genre or so...           http://soundcloud.com/alphaquadrant

Didn't mean any offense, and I do like the music. Hey I got Chronika IV & have DJ'd it a fair bit.

It's just a different sound since the early days, which is fair enough, but for sure Clangour is still my all time fav tech trance CD.           Cuntus Maximus.

I miss this style greatly, It's always been a mystery to me how it just disappeared. What happened?

Being a more night time orientated artist myself, I still believe in this style.

I recently made a "bootleg" version of The Delta- Thing,,, Here's a clip of me playing it

@ Lost&Found: Thats a pretty cool cover

@ Anyer: Well see its not spam, cause I like the stuff you posted

Btw: Thanks for the support in this thread, I always felt a bit lost with my taste. But seems there are others out there with simmilar opinion to mine.

I make music sometimes too, however compared to real cool psy or dark stuff it doesnt hold up. At least not that I think its "true" enough for the Psytrance scene. But the same goes for the Industrial scene. Oh well. I just like to experiment without thinking about a certain style or what the listener acually might like or expect.

BTW: I was playing drums in a deathmetal band like 15 yrs ago, there was more of a audience to amateur grind/death we played back then, compared to the more "refined" electronic stuff I do today funny isnt it ? And boy did we suck at playing decent metal looool           http://soundcloud.com/alphaquadrant

The Delta was quite unique. But check out Midi Miliz, Spirillianz, Spiralkinda, Planet BEN, Intact Instinct, Organic Noise, Authentik, Fuzzion, Metalogic, Boo Reka, M.O.S (second album is amazing).

Everything on Boshke Beats CD releases, early Horns & Hoofs CDs etc.

There lots there but it kind of moved to a more progresses sound later on which is still very lovely but that raw crunch has gone a lot now.           Cuntus Maximus.

Yeah unfortunately almost all of those acts are now defunct. There hasn't been any new acts producing this type of stuff for ages now.

It's kind of sad to see the masters X-dream only playing "retro" sets at the festivals. As much as I love the music, its kind of awkward, no? Something new would be awesome.
