Dancing in a Circle

As a DJ, I would not like to be positioned in the middle of a circular/surround system. For one, you can only see half of the dancefloor - a DJ needs to see what is going on with the dancefloor in order to really properly work with it, musically. Also, having the speakers pointing directly at the DJ booth is a very bad situation for the technical side of mixing. But then again, I don't think most people attending festivals can really tell the difference between a trainwreck and their umpteenth hit of acid kicking in. I also wouldn't want the main system blaring at me for hours without any way to escape it if I so chose - bad for the ears (again, something that hardly any people care about at festivals).

And one really important thing - where the hell do the DJs go if they need to take a leak?

Where do you get the facts that the DJ can concentrate better if he/she's playing in the middle of a circle... rubbish

I can asure you that a DJ's concentration got nothing to do if he/she's in the middle of a circle or not...

I find this setup yet another way of praising the DJ's as gods. Why should they be the center of worship? I fail to see the idea behind this... IT's not a freaking Rock Show!

Again will someone please explaing to me the connection between Full Moon and tribal!

Handa what I maen with the DJ concentrating better in the middle of the cicle is that: the x point he will be at is where the maximum distance he can have and the best place to hear all the speaker together, so I think he can concentrate better in the sound, but I don't really know anything about it so, it is just quiet logical.

The same is for us there, we are not there because of him as a person but as a Dj, and if this DJ do what he's got to do, I don't think it is anything to do with unpoliteness when they have to turn their back. And I think it is a tremendous good idea to call it tribal, because it is the moment people are alterated conciously and it will give them (if they are into) a marbalous spiriual experience. And this we all know, the Dj is actually responsible for what people is listening to, so why does he have to be out of the circle, if he is actually the one to put up the sound?

anyways

Cos Full Moon is Unique.

Maybe it is... But the concept is definitaly not.. I have experienced this thing several times, outdoor and indoor...

And believe me it does it better indoor.. (once Richie Hawtin was performing, btw..)

To solve the problem of not being able to see the people behind him, maybe have the decks set up one at each side of small circular stage!! Dj can then run between the decks and face one way with one track, the other with the next!

Boom 2000 had a circular stage, but the area behind was alot smaller than infront. Quite cool to be able to float around 360 around the stage.            - - It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice... - -

Who cares about the Dj??
Sure U might wanna have a glimpse of what Artifakt looks like? or if Uriel is fat or thin? or if Dudev really sings that badly.? But its not the whole idea behind the party right.

In my opinion, its not the "Dj vibes" i want to feel. Standing like im at some rock concert with all my attention focused on the dj/artist ?. That is possibly the most boring party i cud imagine. If i wanted to do that, i'd go for a rock concert.
We missing the point. The point is the music.
Tribals were probably too busy shindiggin about the fire to pay extra attention to the dude with the bongo etc..

And i have no concrete evidence, just my opinion.           ~*** You can tell By the way i use my walk, Im a woman's man, No time to Talk***~

@ vanessa you are totaly right IMHO

that the dj turns his back is no argument i think cause if you are so focused on the dj you can just go to that part of the circle where you see him frontal. and about the tribal feeling that's up to the individual person of course (but i dont see why full-on can't be tribal). for example on samothraki island i liked the way tents were set up in the "forest" next to the sea, that had a tribal atmosphere for me but the dancefloor on the fullmoon much more. having a fire in the middle of the circle is good for a party but not for a one week festival day and night i think. and if you only have a circle but the dj away and nothing in the middle than its dancing in a circle anymore since you dont dance around a main circle.

I dunno. it could work out well, or it could suck. i personally dont really care what the dj is doing. im about the music...so i dont really feel the need to hold hands and spin in circles around some dude. a fire would be cool if it was just a night thing. a small shindig. i think the sound might suffer though. itd probably be a bigger pain in the ass than it was worth
