Here is something I have always debated, and have gotten conflicting answers from a lot of different people. Is psy better as a (relatively) small, tight-knit community, or would it be better if more people discovered it? In other words, imagine if psy were to become bigger than pop or rap or rock. Would it's powers diminish when applied to the lives of people who do not understand the psychedelic mind, or would it help the people of the world to understand themselves and others, in effect making the world a better place?

why all the time, people who listen to trance have to say, this is a more intelligent music, this is only for few people, this is something not a lot of people would understand, this is this and that eag.

The reason I think it would be hard to make psytrance as big as other genre is because, people who likes psy are the people who travel a lot. It is not nice to listen to trance in the same club all the time, while many other genres fit perfectly to it.

Like in Brasil trance is really accepted and maybe reaching some others very popular genres, but it is to do with the facilities of getting nice outdoor. Psytrance music is very accepted, but it makes people want to move around, if they don't it is quiet frustrating...

if everyone had got to think in only one way it would be very boring, and i don't think it would make the world a better place

Good answer. But I do think a lot of people would not understand it, which is why it is not more popular. I also agree that it's good that more people don't understand it because like you said, if everyone thought the same way it would be pretty boring. The thing is, I hear some people talking (mostly high), who think that if only people could become a part of this scene, it would change the world. Tim Leary and his people thought the same way, but I don't think so.

well that is quiet religious thought perhapes, the Hare krishna also say the same thing.

I think there is a certain very very high level of arrogance in the trance scene, and it comes with a cool diplomatic comunication which is only a mask. NOt everyone... but it is just too much, i havent seen that in other scenes, and I think if everyone become part of these non sense speech like: 'only for few' , not 'everyone can understand' this is a total exclusion for any kind of newcomer, I think the music can pretty much spread like pop, but if this sort of arrogance also spreads it would be terrible.

First, quite frankly I think that there is already a lot of people in the Psy scene who does not fully understand the "psychedelic mind", me included. Though I've been in love with this music for 10 years now. Am I a parasite ? And what is Psy, by the way ? A never ending debate (one more thread about it on psynews.org at the moment if you're interested)

Second point, apart from the very mainstream and commercial Pop that you can hear on every radio and TV, in every shop, there are a lot of music out there requiring a few efforts to fathom, from Gregorian chants, Jazz, experimental electronic music... Psy Trance is truly not so special in that respect IMO.

To Jeff:
I never called anyone a parasite.
To me, the psychedelic mind is a mindset that makes people want to step outside of the lies, hidden commercial messages and bullshit morality that pop culture is impregnated with. And to answer the question "what is psy?", I guess it is anything within the above definition. "Gregorian chants, Jazz..." but I believe that this forum is called "Trance", so that's the kind of music I was applying my question to. I'm sure someone will say my topic is off-topic, but if there is nothing more to this music than just sound, then there isn't much we can discuss. I, for one, think it's more than that, Jeff. And as far as psy being a never ending debate, that's fine with me. Religion and politics are both never ending debates, but people still debate them. I didn't join this forum only to talk about my favorite cd's everyday.

The more the better. Psy trance around the world, in tv at the radio, teached in school how to produce it, how to live in peace, what is trance, and why freedom is better then war.

Trance parties all the time, drugs for free, but used in a senseful way if at all.

Taking the human being to the next steps, higher conciousness, exploring mind and the space, also nano cosmos. Learning as essiential part in life, even more then now. Peace and free love everywhere, no crime at all, no money, all thinks reconstructed by nanobots, so everyone got everything he/she need. But the needs will be reduced through the higher conciousness and being happy with less.

true.

but does it have to be scary? what is it that's scary? and what is it that gives comfort?

what are you left with when reality is stripped away.

what would you be left with if psytrance was stripped out of your life? could you still dance your own special dance with just the rhythim in your heart?

For me is better to keep it underground.
for people who understud and like not only
this music but and the way of life.
A lot of people just leasent this music because is today music nothing else.
They dont understud what mean to be a psychedelic person. For them we are just "burn" as they said. If I have the power I will kick em all OUT because they dont respect the psy culture.
They critisezed our way of life but they want to be members of our culture.
How can this happen? Just because they put the same music at home Stereo?
They are no Psychedelics but when you tell something like this they are screaming...

The psy culture is something big.
Pleace respect it not infected it...
